Whoever thinks it’s “an easy backdoor” is mistaken. Penn nursing is a top program at a top school with plentiful research resources/opportunities. The applicant pool is very competitive.
I got my Penn interview about a week after applying RD around the application deadline.
How was it?
We live less than an hour away from PENN… lots of alumni in the area…my daughter never got an interview. She had interviews with all the other schools she applied to that offer them…
It was really great. Just a casual conversation. My interviewer and I had a lot in common, so we had so much to talk about. Ended up being just over an hour, but overall, a pretty fun experience. There were some questions asked that really made me think (like what is the bigger purpose of what I want to study), but as long as you’re passionate about what you’re talking about, it’ll be quite easy.
Did you have that Oliver guy?
No, my interviewer was a different person (not going to share his name for privacy reasons).
Does anyone know when they stop doing alumni interviews? If you haven’t gotten an alumni interview by “such and such date”, you are unlikely to get one.
Yes, my son had an interview a few weeks ago as well as other kids he knows from our school that also applied to Penn. All of them had a different alum interviewer.
I’m pretty sure, for some ivies, the school needs the interview report by around February 20th, so I feel like this is the last week to be contacted. I’m no expert, though, so take what I said with a grain of salt.
i had my interview yesterday (i’m an intl student) and it was a graduate from 95 and the interview questions were unlike any ive come across before. interviewer asked me mainly abt my thoughts on the covid pandemic and how its impacted me and changed me as a student. he asked me only one penn related question and that was what do i hope to achieve after penn
My D just received an email this morning from an alum regarding an interview.
My son had his interview last week. The interviewer asked a lot of thought provoking questions - it was well done. My son enjoyed it - great experience. Lasted about an hour & 15 minutes.
Yes my daughter did.
Hi. My D had her interview today and it lasted all of 15 minutes! We were both totally confused. She said the interview asked her tell them about herself. And then asked if she had any questions. Not at all what she expected or had experienced with other interviews.
I would say that it must have been a new interviewer and nothing to do with your D whatsoever. Sorry she had that experience - I always tell my kids to make sure when you feel disappointed to remember how that feels so that if they are ever tasked to interview a kid for college that they give it their all and give that kid the best experience ever.
My daughter finally got contacted by a Penn alum for an interview. Funny thing is, the interviewer is in Tennessee, and we live about an hour from Penn. I guess the interviewers aren’t regional anymore!
That’s great! My son received interviews for all his reach schools except Columbia. We are still hopeful for that one. Good luck to your daughter!
Good luck to your son, too! Fingers crossed he hears from Columbia soon.
My son also just heard from Upenn for an Alumni Interview. The interviewer didn’t indicate where they are located. He is very happy as he wanted an interview with UPenn and was disappointed he had not heard from them. Now for one from Yale, which is the only other Ivy he has not received an interview request from.
Good luck to our children:-) I feel for them…so much pressure and stress especially this year, with the uptick on applications.
