UPenn's Inferiority Complex

I love UPenn. I'm a legacy. If you're reading this post, don't be offended. I'm not trying to make fun of Penn, I'm just generating a list of the things that make students at this lovely university somewhat insecure. But not always.

Let's see...

-First off... the NAME. UPenn vs. Penn state. There's always a mix up. For some reason, it's the only top-tier school with a name that has University of [Insert State]

-A high acceptance rating, although it is one of the better Ivy Leagues.

Amy Gutmann

Any input would be appreciated.

What input do you want? My input is that you sound like a ■■■■■ and, at least from my part, there is no inferiority complex. What about Amy Gutmann?

I, for one, like that we are confused with Penn State.
When you tell someone your from UPenn, they’re like “oh” (thinking your from Penn State). Just let it be, don’t bother explaining the confusion.

Although this won’t happen with everyone, sometimes, that person will stumble upon University of Pennsylvania in the future, maybe on a website or college guidebook, and their eyes will widen when they realize you went to a #4 national ivy university :).

For the rest of the people who confuse you with going to Penn State and forever thinking so, let it be. No need to worry about what others think.

Seriously though, I’m starting a new job and EVERYONE is pretty clear on where Penn stands. No need for clarifications. Your average Joe will confuse it with Penn State, but that doesn’t cause an inferiority complex, because in any context in which it matters, there will not be confusion. What this WILL cause, however, is a lot of amusement. I truly ENJOY having your average Joe confuse Penn with Penn State!

“A high acceptance rating, although it is one of the better Ivy Leagues.”
High acceptance? Is that the same as high admittance? I’ve never heard anyone say that about UP.

It’s a bigger school. So they need more. So they accept more applicants.

That’s not a turn off

hey at least people have heard of Upenn. Half of the people I know don’t even know what Cornell is

And also, University of California Berkeley is a top tier school, correct? and University of Virginia?

UCB is a lower top-tier school. UVA isn’t.
