Uploading an Additional Rec

This discussion was created from comments split from: Editing Common App after Deferral?.

If one more recommendation letter will be uploaded to Common App, will Harvard get it? I mean after deferral.

Yes, but I would caution against sending a new letter unless it says something different than the first 2. And for future reference,it’s not cool to hijack a thread.

Mak sure it’s a relevant LoR. Choices can be seen as evidence of one’s thinking.

OP, if you got deferred, it included those prior scores. You weren’t rejected. But it won’t help, at all, to tell them you were sick on the first try.

Have it sense add to Common App feedback from mentor of internship as third recommendation letter? That was in world famous engineering company, feedback is shining, but duration of internship was one week only.

I can think of no example where a reference from a one week internship would add value to an application.

I am reminded of the applicant who was confident that his two week internship with Neil deGrasse Tyson, and the resulting recommendation, would be the golden ticket to the HYP-level schools to which he applied. He was rejected.

As a general rule, Harvard would prefer a rec from the GM of the McDonald’s franchise over a rec from a prestigious person/place if the former says something significant about the applicant.

May be I don’t understand something, but at all another forums where I ever participated it absolutely normal to post in somebody’s thread if that is not offtopic. I mean that my post was about same thing that OP start to speak about.

There are general threads like the Harvard SCEA class of 2023 thread that anyone can post in, and usually the opening post states, “all are welcome to post.”

But if the purpose of the thread is to seek answers to a question, like this one, then responses are limited to answering the question or probing for additional information. Asking your own question, however, is hijacking. And asking a question that is not even related to the original is derailing. @Alezzz

But if man one week work together with you, it possible to get a lot of significant things about him.
Normal duration of interview for engineering position is near one hour only. That’s enough for good specialist to estimate your abilities for engineering.

This is not a job interview.

You asked if it made sense to send. I said no. You can spin it however you want, but my opinion won’t change. Perhaps other users have a different opinion that more closely aligns to your goals

One week won’t wow H adcoms. Regardless of other examples. They’ve seen kids devote much more time, play a role in a project, and bring results, over longer stretches of time. This person barely got to know your son and his work.

And the best LoRs are generally not about a writer’s own or the company’s fame.

Can Extended Essay from IB Diploma Program be listed as research paper?
Topic is very good correlate with selected major.

Can it depends on the school. Should it? IMO, no.

If a college wanted to see an example of academic work, it would ask. e.g. Princeton.

Colleges realize that the IB EE requires a significant amount of work, but generally, applicants submit research projects that were done outside of the curricular framework.Even then, an abstract is usually preferable to the entire paper.
