Upward grade trend- helpful?

Do you think having a strong upward trend in GPA will allow colleges to overlook a bad year of grades?
Sophomore year I had a 3.1 (due to family health issues) but junior year i got a 4.6. Will they view me as a 3.1 student, a 4.6 student, or a 3.8 student (my soph/junior cumulative)? Will admission officers be able to overlook my sophomore year grades and perhaps even look favorable on my big upward trend? Most importantly, how can I make colleges see me as a 4.6 student?

sorry there were a couple distracting errors I typed it quickly

the upward grade trend is going to help you a LOT, especially if you have a legitimate explanation for your low sophomore year grades

if you portray yourself as an intelligent, hard-working, genuine individual through your essays and your extracurriculars, you will be seen as a “good” student, not the 3.1 sophomore that you were.

best of luck

Okay I’ll be more specific.
all As and 1 B first semester for junior year, all As second semester.
Classes taken junior year:
AP calc
AP us history
AP lang and comp
biology (college-level)
Spanish I(college course)
Music theory III

Top choice schools:
All UCs (berkeley/ucla especially)
USC
BU
Tulane
Brandeis
UWashington-seattle
Reed

Your upward grade trend is certainly impressive since you took so many AP/honor classes during junior year. I’d say that if you can explain why your grades were low during sophomore year in the additional comments section of the app, then the colleges would see you as a favorable, hard-working student. Good luck!
