Upward trends and class rank?

How much will rank matter in admissions? I have an upward trend in my grades- 3.66 freshman year to 4.0 sophomore and junior year (and predicted senior year) and I'm in the top 10% (barely, like top 8-9%).How much will this affect my chances at top schools (Ivies, T20, etc.). If I discount my freshman gpa, I'm easily in the top 5% of my class. My SAT's, recommendations, essays, EC's, etc. are all fine, I'm mainly worried about my rank.

Rank is king. At even the “lower” ivies, the majority of unhooked kids from non super high schools are top 2 in their class. That said, if you have something they want, being within the top 10% assures there is a possibility.

Even if they throw out your freshman grades as Princeton does, they still use the rank that your school provides. As Redroses states, that is the context in which they put your grades and it’s very important.
