My daughter is a potential incoming freshman. We have been trying to learn about the UR campus from some of the posts on the CC threads. There is such lackluster participation by UR students on the CC threads, it's beginning to seem as though there is also a lackluster campus life. It's becoming a rather grave concern. I doubt me and my D are the only ones frustrated by last of information.

There are 2-3 of the same students who are answering posts on these threads (thank you to those kids by the way). This isn't a very diverse perspective in which to view the school. UR ADMISSIONS, can you please encourage kids to get online and share their insights? Perhaps, send out a school wide email informing them that incoming kids need their help.

In Davidson’s acceptance packet is a listing of students and faculty (with contact information) that welcome questions from prospective students (might be a good idea for UR to emulate this in the future). I imagine the one on one contact is quite valuable to prospective students with concerns about campus life, off campus life, etc. I’m also confident that the admissions office at UR would be glad to connect you with current students that might be able to provide info. Best wishes.

Perhaps my admission colleagues at other institutions are “staffing” college confidential whereas we have considered it an organic activity. Students who post here from UR are those that do so because they know about the site, probably used it when they were high school students and are willing to do it. On occasion, I have invited some students to post when there are specific questions that need a student viewpoint and I don’t expect the “organic” participation will take care of it. Most of the student conversation is happening on Facebook where we have very active group of students conversing about all kinds of things with each other and a larger UR student contingency.

I don’t think a lack of participation on this web board should be construed as a lackluster campus environment–maybe just the opposite. Our students are fully engaged in their academic lives as well as many other things happening here on campus and in the city. Exams are rapidly approaching (there are just 2 more weeks of classes here) and students are very, very busy.

I will certainly invite other students to participate on CC, but I might also encourage your daughter to join the Facebook group and also our UR social network at groups.richmond.edu “accepted students 2013” group to interact with current UR students and faculty in greater numbers. Students are also welcome to e-mail “asksar@richmond.edu” to ask questions directly of Student Admission Representatives and to contact our SpiderDiaries bloggers through the spiderdiaries.richmond.edu web site.

Of course, we also welcome you to visit campus if you are able.

UR Admissions, Thanks for the additional resources. It has occured to me that lack of posting on CC by students could equate to the fact that they are happily involved with other activities. I certainly hope that’s the case. What continues to throw me though are the other lively dicsussions within the threads of other schools. It would definitely be greath, if you could encourage students to take a quick moment to provide some information here.

ks, also don’t forget that UR is a pretty small school at just 3,000, so the potential pool of students discussing topics is smaller than most other schools. The other resources that Admissions mentioned could be very useful.
