UR students balance science and humanities

I have often described UR students as being “bi-brained”.

They often are interested in both science and the arts. My son graduated with an ME degree and almost minored in Film. Others minor in music or foreign language. The Take 5 program encourages this as well as a UR grad can go for another year and study in a field that is not their major without paying additional tuition.

This is from the UR magazine to highlight a few student who have excelled in both areas.

D majored in math, minored in English, is now a high school librarian…sounds “bi-brained” to me!

Yup, my D had interest in English and Environmental Science, is now moving forward as a Public Health major.

BCS/Bio majors and ASL/Psych minors with a Take 5 studying Western Influences on “Success” in Africa for my lad. U Roc fit him perfectly. He sensed it on his first visit after having visited a fair number of other schools.

Yes! My bi-brained son graduated with a BS in Evolutionary Biology and a BA in Political Science. When I tell people that, they look puzzled, but he just followed his passions. I’m not sure he could have done that in four years somewhere else as comfortably as he did at UR. UR just fit him perfectly.

He’s now back at UR pursuing a PhD in CDM Bio, but who knows - he may run for office one day!

Chiming in here a little late—my daughter has dual majors in microbiology and “health, behavior, and society/public health”. Definitely a bi-brained place.
