[Urgent Help!] Ohio State CS v.s. Purdue Human and Health Science v.s. other schools!

I agree that there will be no need for you to transfer from OSU. It’s a great school and program! You’ll have room in your schedule to take electives that matter to you.

I also agree though that your classes should not be a replacement for counseling if you are still struggling to work through issues of your past relationship. There will be mental health supports at any campus. Make use of their services.

Congrats!

@momofsenior1

Thank you for your celebration! I will do my best on my elective to fulfill my interest!

I could see the care of the university when I see PSP program for individual students. I will figure it what will happen soon!

Thank you

Ohio State is very very strong in CS, statistics and mathematics, with smaller class sizes than Purdue. Purdue is better known in engineering than computer science, but a rising star in computer science as well.

This particular ranking, Purdue and Ohio State look similar. It measures starting salaries and graduates that go to
the top CS companies.

For sure go to Ohio State. You can get into a masters program easily from Ohio State. Its not worse in any way I can think of compared to Purdue for computer science undergraduate programs.

Go to Purdue for a masters in cybersecurity, later. Or look at Georgia Tech or U of Illinois as well, for graduate schools in your subspecialty field.

There are many factors you should be considering right now. The “university name” is not a valid reason to choose a school. Ohio State will set you up for a future career just as well as Purdue would, and since it’s at the top of your list, just go there.

What did you choose?

If you attend Purdue, it is very unlikely that you will be able to major in CS, or take many CS courses as a non-major. Attend Purdue only if you are not really interested in CS.

You said that Purdue said that the CS department is filled to capacity. That means that it is very unlikely that you will be able to switch to the CS major. Attend Purdue only if you are not really interested in CS.

Okay… It is a day to pay a deposit for colleges and I am not committed yet (Yeah…! I am so dumb haha…).

Well… So My previous question was about to choose one from four universities. I want to study very broadly with a specialization on Computer Science, maybe minor or double major in psychology or brain study.

  1. Ohio State University --> CS, affordable
  2. Indiana Bloomington University --> CS, affordable
  3. Oberlin College --> CS, too expensive... (more money for small classes.... capitalism... tears...)
  4. Purdue Univ --> Human and Health Science.

My question is “is it a dumb plan to go Purdue with a Human and Health Science and transfer at first or second year to the more prestigious school?”

Basically, I am an international student and feel like I can do better if I had more time on learning English (I technically spend a year and a half for the SAT and ACT with high school GPA works).

Also, the main reason to study psychology and brain study is that I suffered bad things at my first relationship with my ex-girlfriend, so I wanted to know how people hurt each other and how people heal each other with a belief that I can make some sort of solution on mental care with my programming backgrounds. (well… I suffered all college preparing stuff when all the bad things were happening).

Do you guys think it makes sense to plan a transfer at the first or second year at the Purdue with a story like “I suffered the bad incident above and my perspective was got broaden to focus on the human for first to understand the humankind Now, it is time to find a solution with my interest” ??

Or, it is better to follow on the future courses on my degree and depth study on my field for my specialized skill and experience?

Please let me know your thoughts!

I appreciate your tardy reading this bunch of long long paragraph.

If it’s between CS and humanities, CS is a much more practical thing to study. It’s a lot harder to get a humanities degree and be employable in technology. If you want humanities, you could minor in it, but don’t jeopardize your future over it.
