Urgent parent tax return receipt

I think the only way is to order through IRS, which takes 5-10 days? I noticed on FAFSA that there is some tool that asks have you applied or requested tax receipt, etc. but I just made changes to my FAFSA, so I can't access it. Is there a faster way to get this because mar 1 is the deadline for most schools.

Also, the IDOC requests 1099. Idk what that form is. Is the 1040A fine +W2? It says the 1099 is required, but I can't find this form.

1099’s report non-employee income, as well as dividend and interest income and grants, to name those forms I’m personally familiar with. There are probably a few other types, too. If you don’t have income from savings vehicles or stocks you won’t see a 1099-INT or 1099-DIV. You would get a 1099 if you worked as an independent contractor.

I don’t know what the tax receipt is that you’re talking about, can’t help with that.

It’s for my parents info - it’s required for some of the ivy league schools, which they want submitted through IDOC. So it isn’t a required form when filing taxes? I just know we usually do 1040A.

It’s like a summary to verify income on 1040 A and other assets, etc. It’s from the IRS.

The various versions of 1099 are similar to a w2. It’s not a form you fill out, but one you would receive if you had income reported to the IRS (there are about 25 different versions, for different purposes).

The Ivy league schools require you to complete the FAFSA and the CSS Profile. Some of the information will be based on your tax return (and your parent’s). If you are selected for verification (either through FAFSA, or institutional verification), you will need to either link your FAFSA account directly to the IRS to pull the verified information from the IRS, or order a tax transcript. That transcript won’t be available until several weeks after the IRS processes the return. In most cases, they want a copy of the tax returns and all supporting documents (W2 and 1099 forms) via IDOC.

I have completed the FAFSA and CSS and have submitted both. How do I know if I’ve been selected for verification? Should I still compile the IDOC docs and send it to collegeboard? I don’t have my parents’ 1099. If I request a tax transcript, I don’t think it’ll make it back in time by mar. 1. How would I get the 1099 form?

You need to ask your parents if they received any 1099’s. If so, copy and add them to your package. Otherwise they’re irrelevant - just send 1040A and W-2’s.

If they do have 1099’s with account numbers on them, best to black out the account numbers before sending. If this doesn’t make any sense, just get them in!

They gave me all the forms - no 1099s, idk why IDOC lists it as required… like on the IDOC requirements/instructions form…

can someone clarify this portion? not the cover page, the instructions page? what exactly do they want?

They ask for the 1099s for the same reason they ask for W2s - they have no idea if you have any or not. They want all forms used to report your income to the IRS.

As for the instructions, I’m not sure what you’re asking. They want a copy of everything they list on the instructin page:

The cover sheet
your parents tax returns, and their supporting documents
your tax return and supporting documents
any other pages they request, such as the verification worksheet
any forms specific to your list of schools

Did your parents efiled their tax returns? If they do and IRS accepted their returns, your parents could obtain a tax transcript at your local IRS office real time.
