urgent! please help me out...

ok, well, here's the thing: I'v been in my high school's magnet program ever since the ninth grade. I'v always had trouble getting the AP classes I wanted from my magnet counselor. Even when there were availabe AP classes, he would tell me that i couldn't join because they weren't specifically assigned to magnet students.
Well, recently i talked to one my regular high school's counselors (who was my bro. & sister's counselor) and he told me that if got out of the magnet and got him as my counselor, that he would be able to give me the AP classes that i wanted.
I'm now in the 11th grade and yet again i'v been limited by my counselor on behalf of how many AP's i can take. All i got was AP Calculus, and i'm begining to worry b/c im a junior with only 2 APs under his belt (AP world hist. and AP calc). He actually did offer another AP-- AP US Hist-- but from what i see, the courseload would be too intense to fit with my CAlc class.

I need more choices. I would like to be able to pick the AP's I want. I actually wanted Ap Calc and AP chem or AP Environ S. this year, but, as you can read, that didn't happen. The magnet is making my goal of 5-6 completed APs by the end of high school seem impossible.

PLease help me decide if i should drop my MAGNET program. It's only been the first day of the school year and i think i still have time... please help me decide.

bump.................

Well if the courseload of one class is enough to make you not take it I don't see how you can seriously reach your goal of 5-6 AP's.

On a lighter note, I had only done one AP course by my junior year, and I ended up fine. On top of it, I had a similar scenario to you on the amount of AP courses I wanted to take though personally I couldn't fit AP Gov in my junior or senior year schedule. But yeah, if anything you should attempt to self-study a couple of AP courses [perhaps begin slowly over the summer and work you way up] and perhaps hit the 5-6 mark. Personally I managed to hit the six mark since I decided to take five AP's and it really wasn't too heavy especially considering I also had to balance applications and a job two/three times a week, so perhaps consider a rigorous senior year.

Junior year is the most important, since it's the last full year the colleges have to look at.

Because there isn't much time left for you to make a change, if that's what you want, I think you need to get your parents involved. Schedule a meeting with the principal or vice-principal, your folks, and the magnet counselor. Find out what your options are, and make a decision from there.

It's amazing how quickly things change in a setting like this, if the people involved have any flexibility at all. And if they don't you'll know, and can plan accordingly. Good luck.
