Hi everyone,
I’m currently accepted to LSA Econ major as an incoming junior. I want to pursue a career in finance in the future so it’d be very helpful to transfer into Ross. I heard that it’s difficult to transfer into Ross after the second year, but I’m willing to make all kinds of sacrifices including staying in college for one more year to complete the program. I truly want to be part of Ross and simply hope that I can be given an opportunity to pursue that goal. Could anyone give me some advice? What should I do to maximize my chance? Thanks!

It seems that they want kids transferring as freshman or sophomores. They take 100 cross campus transfers VS 25 external transfer student’s. The odds are not that great It is a very competitive process.
I would be thinking will I still be happy if I don’t get into Ross.
Reach out to Ross directly. Maybe they can give you better insight.
Chances are very slim. I’ve never had a class with anyone nor heard of anyone transferring into Ross after their second year. However, I’m sure it isn’t impossible. I would reach directly out to a Ross admissions counselor and explain your situation and willingness to step back a year in academic standing.
You can’t start a Ross BBA after you’ve already completed three years of college. Since, as you said, you don’t mind paying for an extra year, your best bet is to apply, during your senior year, for the Ross Master of Management one-year program. You’ll graduate Michigan LSA with a BA in Economics and get a Master’s degree in management from the Ross School of Business the following year.

Keep a high GPA in LSA Econ (which is admittedly a tall order), and those investment banking opportunities will be open to you as well.

Good point yikesyikesyikes. Naturally, like all universities with an elite business school, the majority of the qualified students on campus that are interested in careers in banking will gravitate toward Ross, and so will the majority of the recruitment activity. However, a Michigan degree is highly coveted, regardless of the college/school. Economics, Mathematics and Engineering majors with high GPAs (3.7+) can land a job in any industry, including banking. Banks respond really well to Econ and Math double majors.
You stated that you are willing to stay a extra year. Have you considered the Ross 10 month Master of Management program?

Seems like this program would be a fit and you would get a graduate degree if you did it v. staying an extra year just to transfer to an undergrad degree.
