Congrats, Lucie!! So happy for you and your son. :)

Thanks, neato. I have my fingers crossed everybody else here fares as well.

I write from the perspective of a parent of an Andover student.

To the original poster, if you are unhappy at whatever school you are at, please follow some of the recommendations of the other parents on this board…changing advisors, counseling, etc. Also, maybe boarding school isn’t for you, and you would be happier/do better going to school at home. Leaving boarding school isn’t failure, but might be just figuring out what is best for you.

As to financial aid students vs. full pay at Andover, they seem pretty well integrated. Doesn’t seem like a big deal to us or our daughter that we get a generous FA package.

Congratulations, Lucie! I’m happy to hear that you and your son have found the right school!

Bottom line is that boarding school isn’t right for every student. I think that those kids who navigate the waters successfully and happily have a fair amount of social savvy when they come to the school. For some kids, the fact that they cannot touch base on a daily basis with a family unit that can help bolster their confidence and provide a buffer to the outside world and the often difficult teen years, makes BS too hard on them.

AS a former boarding school failure ( sad but true) I wouldnt DREAM of sending a child who I didnt believe had the social confidence and study skills/self discipline needed t o survive. I had neither, sounds like the OP here at least has the latter, and I wish him/her all the best of luck, whether its Andover or elsewhere. These years as a highschooler are felt so strongly…PAA , you have my best wishes.

I just wasted ten minutes…

^Same…haha

@rizzledrizzle I can’t believe I almost read this whole thread.
