I know (and have read about on this site) a lot of URMs admitted to ivies and top universities with high GPAs (3.8+) and ranks (Top 5%), but middling SATs (usually around 2000). But does anyone know/know of any admitted with middling GPAs (3.5-3.6) and high SATs (2200+)?

kind of right der too....

i know a URM at my school who got into Cornell with a 3.6 GPA and a 1950 SAT. He had a 1450 Math + Verbal though, and I think most colleges weren't factoring in the writing section because it was the first year so he didn't care that he scored so low on writing.

He had a lot of extra curriculars though and a pretty tough course load...

how about in general too? (high SAT middle GPA) Or does that just make you look lazy?

****.... im really lacking in the Ec section all i really have is my passion in helping in the retirement home...

Why not just always shoot for the sky?

when u say gpa is UW or W?

I know a urm that got into USC with a 900 old sat 4.0
and another urm 2005 with a 740 old sat ucla 3.9
this year another with a 1200 new ucla 4.0(06)
1200 new Georgetown, 3.0(06)

thats odd ^^^

especially considering that the UCs are race blind...

yeah but the school where we're from the highest sat score is a 1600 and the average is a 1150, crap school hu?
but they were in everything and their essays were really good

i forgot to add in 2005 a someone with a 900 got into UCB, with a 3.8 gpa, and 2 or 3 ecs, but tons of comm service

wait when you say the highest score is a 1600 you mean math and verbal only... you're not including the writing section, right? same thing with the 1150, thats math and verbal only right? if it is math and vebal only that's a pretty good school.

if you mean average is 1150/2400 you have to be joking, you can get a 1200 by just leaving the test blank.

nope believe me i've seen their scores it's including writting.

m8913s you must go to one of the worst high schools in america, what city is it in?

East los angeles

when you said east LA i remembered the one day in my graphics imaging class where a couple of kids brought in a video called "hood to hood" and our teacher was letting us watch it cuz it was the day before christmas break... we started talking about compton and our teacher was like "compton? i can get you a nice house in compton for free"

we had to explain the concept of public housing to him lol

compton, it's not that bad, atleast i think so but there are certain streets u just know not to go into :)
actually compton is in south central not east la

I have a 3.6 high school cumulative with a 2180 SAT 32 ACT. So I guess I kinda fit what you are talking about. But the reason I had a 3.6 was due to a frosh year GPA of 3.1.
I got into 7 schools including Williams, Swarthmore, Wellesley and Pomona.

Black girl with a 1950 got into Princeton ED at my school.

This girl at my school got into Brown's PLME program with a 1760 SAT. But it's an underachieving school (John C. Fremont HS on wikipedia).

Can you all please please PLEASE tell me if you know of any with high SATs and LOW GPAs? I already know there's a bunch with middling SATs and high GPAs.
