"and this is for all MIT jobs, not just UROPs"

Note that when she says "all MIT jobs", she means all MIT jobs TOTAL for a given week. ie, if you want to work as a Tech Caller for 2 hours a week, you can only get paid 38 hours from your UROP, etc =D

does it really matter how you choose to participate in a UROP? whether it is for credit, pay, or volunteer work (besides the added credit bonus, extra money in your pocket, or warm feeling of contribution)? :]

You can't get pay and credit in the same semester, though, and of course freshman year you'd probably prefer to be paid due to the freshman credit limit. And taking UROP for credit is usually an easy way to get an A, at least insofar as you hopefully find it fun and exciting and there are no problem sets involved.
