Ursinus vs. Muhlenberg

My son accepted to both Muhlenberg and Ursinus with merit money. He has ADHD and executive functioning issues but understands the material taught to him without problem. His difficulties are in organization and socialization. He is very shy and introverted. He was accepted to 10 small LAC but we have narrowed it down. Does anyone have experience with their kid getting someone to push in to the college campus to help with organizational issues at either school and or experience with the school’s attitudes about helping kids who have LD issues. He was also accepted to Dickinson, Skidmore, Wheaton, Clark, Goucher.

Organizational issues sound like Executive Function issues.
Has he been diagnosed for anything?

I don’t know anything specific…but have you talked to the people at https://www.ursinus.edu/offices/institute-for-student-success/ ?

Some colleges have people that help students organize themselves…but it costs extra.

Also ask in http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/ursinus-college/

Does he get services in high school? If so, the counselor should send all the documentation to whichever college your son chooses. We spoke to the director of disability services at my son’s future college before he applied so we could get a sense of what would be available to him if he attended. The services he will receive are free of charge.

If your son does not have an IEP, then your issue is a little more challenging because you may or may not be able to get help from within the college. I would again speak to the disability office from each college and see what they offer. Even if they can’t help him, they may have suggestions for you.

Have you visited both of these campuses? I ask because IMO they have a very different feel. Ursinus is a very “sporty” campus - it seems like every other kid is on a team. Muhlenberg seems more diverse on interests, although it does have a large performing arts contingency.
