US citizens now Internationals ???

So I'm a US citizen and I will apply for universities in America this year. The thing is, I'm 17 yo and I haven't gone to the states since I was 4 yo. I've been told that I should apply for universities as an international because of that. Is that true?

No. If you are a citizen, you are considered in the same pool as every other US citizen. However, your application may be reviewed by someone who normally reviews applications from the country in which you were educated, so that he or she would have some familiarity with the educational system, perhaps even with your school.

^^^

I would also suggest that you contact each of the colleges that you are interested in, and ask them specifically what you need to do because your family doesn’t have US income, and you don’t have a US academic record.

Each year there are several students in your situation who post here at CC. Some of those, besides yourself, who have posted in the past few months are:
harmonium
lilspring
shaneobain
R3d3mpti0n
johnnyquid
shl
studyzone
farhan769
natalle

You can search for the threads that they have started, and you should find information that will help you.

I probably gave you this link before, but here it is again: [EducationUSA | Study Abroad, Student Visa, University Fairs, College Applications and Study in the U.S. / America](http://www.educationusa.info/) Normally the counselors at the advising centers have had experience with US citizens as well as locals, and can help you with the process. If they haven’t worked with a US citizen yet, they have colleagues in other offices who have. Each EducationUSA office runs a bit differently, so I don’t know how many are as good as the one I used to work with in South America. But if the one in your country is like that one, the staff can be very helpful for you.

Wishing you all the best.

happymomof1, I live in Riyadh and I’ve been attending the Workshop Series that the EducationUSA has offered. The two instructors told me to apply as an international but I am confused since others, like Chedva for example, are telling me I should apply as a US citizen.

Thanks for your help !
