Still a good ranking, though.

Yes…a good ranking. Keep in mind SLU is in the National Research group and not the Regional universities, where many Jesuit schools find themselves. The National Research group are the biggest, better schools that have major research programs and offer many PhDs as compared to the smaller Regional (few post graduate degrees) schools or liberal arts categories (BA/BS only). In this National research group, there are almost 1000 schools, the majority of which are unranked. The rankings go up to about 200, so SLU is in the top 100 best National schools! Doing the math, with some 3,000 colleges and universities in the US, this has them in the top 5%!!!

Among Catholic schools, they are in a good position: Notre Dame is 19th, Georgetown is 27th, Boston College is 31st, Fordham is 53rd, Marquette is 82nd and next is SLU at 90th. On the U of Dayton site, they are quite proud that they are the 8th best Catholic school in this category (at 101st). SLU is 6th…you can slug it out with Marquette for 5th next year, but as you can see, 90th is pretty darn good!

Dropped again to #92.
