sure, the Ivys are old iCalc…but so were the Maya, and they had a lot to say about the future.

do these rankings rank the quality of instruction and teachers?

UPenn= The Mayans?

the overall score difference is 2/100 points, changes to methodology could easily shut this gap or even reverse it. Some would argue that Columbia deserves to be placed above penn, so ranking it with or above penn is not necessarily a leap-frogging but a correction. Penn has definitely made some of the largest strides in the past 20-30 years, but in the last 5-10 years Columbia and Penn’s paces of improvement have been similar. The truth is, almost every school is constantly improving, so analyzing the absolute improvement in one, does not directly give you relative changes.

ha!..lesdia does it again with his “funny” posted messages

but this time, at least, he doesn’t discuss the Dookie school

I guess Penn will reinvent our calendar. I’m so excited!

i’d like to nominate boston college to move into the top 30. maybe 26 or 27 would be good. i don’t want to be greedy but i think 25 or 24 would also be solid.

I wonder if Michigan and UCB will ever rise in the USNWR rankings again.

thenatural, ok you got the nomination for BC, now we have to convince USNWR

ha!

nah, i think duke is going to trump all schools. lesdiablesbleus for president!

in all seriousness, i think michigan is going to drop 1 or 2 spots.

seriously though, BC always gets hosed! look at the amount of applicants, the acceptance rate, just look at how beautiful that library is!!! i know there’s a formula and none of those things really matter, but 34 is too low. the peer score thing has gotta to go or they need a new formula or something!!!

@les…blues

you do know that US News is one of the only rankings to put Penn over Columbia right?

1) Times Higher Education
2) ARWU
3) Forbes
4) Newsweek
5) Shanghai

All put Columbia over Penn. So it wouldnt be all that surprising if US News were to also put Columbia above Penn in the latest issue.

Once again rankings are subjective and i dont want to take anything away from Penn. Just feel that theres enough reason for Columbia to be ranked higher this year.

thenatural, unfortunately USNWR rankings only count the appearance of the college library for 8.6% of the total ranking.

in my college rankings library aesthetics make up 10% of a college’s total score

But seriously. Will this year’s report include a “merchandise sold worldwide” score? What weight will it carry?

^I believe it will be a “merchandise sold domestically” score. Not sure on the weighting quite yet.

i think columbia and cornell will both rise this year; both schools did great, lower acceptance rates, higher SAT’s, great publications in research, and cornell just put aside around 100 million for better profs, considering many are over 60. I think Duke will drop a spot or two, and Uchicago might crack the top 5.

Chaotic, oh my…

you shouldn’t have said this…

now you are going to be attracked viciously by the Dookie “lesdia”

i think since forbes ranked boston college as the 16th best college in the united states, BC is poised to make an unprecedented leap in the US news rankings this year, from 34 all the way to about 16-19. you heard it here first. count on it. you can take that to the bank.

when are they coming out?
