I'm having a hard time finding information about applying from my senators. I live in Florida, so I've already contacted senator Rubio's office. I'll contact senator Nelson's office, as he's the senior senator and has already nominated pages. What I'm looking for is information such as this: Official Website of U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer: Senate Page Program - Senate Page Program. Any specific information like that would be appreciated, thanks.

There are a few things you need to know about the Senate Page Program. Senator Nelson and Rubio are exceptionally young Senators, which means they’re less likely to be appointed a Page if they’re requested. A Senator has the ability to request a Page for the staff through their party leadership. Pages are assigned through the party leadership, who grants the Senator the ability to have one. I do not think Senator Nelson or Rubio will be given a Page because they do not have seniority. Senator Nelson might, but I do not think so.

Second of all, you can file an application with a Senator from a different state. Although I will warn you, a majority of Senators who accept applications to the Senate Page programs have already picked a due date that has passed. So if you happen to find a Senator out of state, you already have slimmer chances because you’re not from the Senator’s state who usually gives priority to in-state students.

Third, you can contact the Captiol Hill Switchboard here: (202) 224-3121. Ask to be directed to the Senate Page Program Coordinator, if you have any questions or informations. If you have specific questions, you need to contact the D.C. office of the Senator you wish to apply for, and ask for their Page Coordinator.

Good luck, and if you have any other questions feel free to ask. The program is extremely selective, harder than Harvard to be accepted into, but it is a great experience.

Hi,
I am a freshman in high school and I am interested in the Senate Page Program. I was wondering what I could do to improve my chances. I am currently in Mock Trial, French Scrabble, Math Team, Science Olympiad, Golf, and I am in my school band. Next year I am planning on doing National Honors Society as well. I have a 4.125 GPA (UW) and 4 (W). What else can I do to show that I have interest in government and politics. Do I still have a chance even though I have no connections and my parents are registered democrats?
Also should I email my senator? Should I email him and send the applications as well or send the email before or after?
If you could get back to me with answers and advice I will be eternally grateful.

touringyourmind,
I was a Senate Page for the second session of Summer 2013! I am from FL, and my Senators were not able to sponsor anyone at the time that I inquired about applying. I compiled a list of the Republican Senators with the most seniority (my parents and I are registered Republicans) and contacted their offices. Senator Inhofe’s office was impressed with my resume, so they allowed me to apply even though I wasn’t from Oklahoma. I am the Secretary of my school’s Speech and Debate Team, Founder and Chairwoman of my school’s Teenage Republicans Club, and a state officer in the Florida Federation of Teenage Republicans. Furthermore, I was an intern at the local Romney Campaign Office during the 2012 election and have served as a Florida Senate Page twice. I also am very involved service-type activities. As far as academics goes, I’m in the International Baccalaureate Programme, take AP classes, and average As and Bs with a weighted GPA of 5.945. I submitted two letters of recommendation: one from my AP US History Teacher/Republican Club Sponsor and one from the former Chairman of my county’s Republican Executive Committee.

I would say the best advice I can give you is to start the application process as early as possible! You can serve as a page before, during, or after your Junior Year. Find out what the policy is for selecting pages is in your state ASAP, so you have time to explore other options if necessary. I suggest that you either call your Senator’s office on the phone or write a letter. In my experience, emails are more likely to be unanswered. Your parents’ political affiliation shouldn’t matter when applying! (However, I focused on Republican Senators because of how active I am with the GOP.)

Ok thanks so much! ok so im planning on sending an email and if i still get no response i will call them. I am going to ask senator Mitch McConnell how I can volunteer for his campaign maybe that will look better

The best thing to do is to not email the senators and to call them at their DC office. This is true because when I sent a letter to Bill Nelson and Marco Rubio I never heard from them and when I called, I got an answer in 2 minutes. Also, if they say no, just ask them if there is a way that the senator can help me by recommending me to another senator. I did this in Bill Nelson’s office and got to talk to the COO of the office about a potential position.

I found out that Marco Rubio can not sponsor any until a couple of years and in the summer session A, Bill Nelson sponsored a girl. I found out by going to the Florida House (Florida Embassy) and by the COO.

Since I want to do it summer of next year (more than a year away) should I still email them? Also what if they just refer me back to his website to apply there

Hello! I applied for the summer session in January through Senator Udall. Has anyone heard about summer session yet? Or does anyone know when we should hear about the summer session?
