congrats slurpz. awesome :-)

damn it. now im going to spend the rest of the day next to the phone. congrats slurpz!

CONGRATULATIONS, ROB!

That's amazing.

wait nevermind i didnt read your post fully slurpz. last year they called the finalists by phone.

scorch is right; usabo didn't help me get in aaaanywhere. useless.

this year's semis were a lot more thinking than straight-up fact regurgitation.

A good friend of mine made USABO camp but is turning it down since he thinks he's going to get into Chem Olympiad camp (he did last year) and thinks he's got a better shot of making nationals there. I hope another buddy gets into USABO camp. He hasn't made it this year, I don't think, but did make it last year (and if he's in waiting list, I hope this knocks him in).

^^ CautiousPessimism, what town is your friend from?

nvm: is he Alex Zozula, since you seem to be from east brunswick and he was one of the ones on the qualifiers list.

Ahhhh I hate EB.

foolonthehill161, yeah, I'm from EB, and yep, it's Alex (or Grendel...long story...).

nice nice. mr. alex is certainly the beast...i met him at columbia SHP.

@scorcher999
i DID get called...on 4/11. ms. reedy called me and then emailed me the forms afterwards.

well, i didnt get a call. so i guess that means that i didnt make camp this year. Good luck to all the finalists, and bring home the gold in brazil.

*Argentina

how were the national camp exams? harder or easier than semis?

Congrats to all who made it.

As for the "getting you in to college" thing, I've always been under the impression that USABO camp itself won't do much for you. Going to the IBO, on the other hand, will. Colleges don't know exactly what the specific camps entail (that is, how many people any specific camp lets in and under what criteria), but the International Science Olympiads (Math, Chem, Bio, Informatics, Astronomy, and Physics) are quite well-respected and well-known in academia.

Of course, it's also all how you sell it.

National camp exams include a practical section (~4 hrs). Kay and I stayed up about 40 hours in a row writing, administering, and grading that damn thing last year. They also have a lot of taxonomy stuff. Other that that, it's pretty similar.

Oh, if only. IBO didn't get me anything here. I haven't even found anyone that's heard of IBO or any of the Olympiads. Suk.

The thing with sciences is that colleges probably care more about practical experience than mere academic ability.

Well, found out my score. 89 on the multiple choice and ... 10.5 on the free response.

Do you have to login to the teacher site to see your score?
