USA Biology Olympiad 2006

I'm almost positive we're doing it on Wednesday after school.

It's the first day - Monday - for us.

Do I hear bribes for questions? :p

The CEE site says "February 6-10, 2006 (alternate exam dates TBA)."

the open exam last year was more challenging - semis was more recall, if I remember correctly... but have fun guys. =D I have... yet to start studying, lol.

My progress is miniscule to none.

Good luck everyone!

(I'm taking it in 9 hours)

Ahh that was so much fun! I swear there was a typo though...

We should not discuss this exam until everyone has taken it and both the regular and alternative windows have closed. The regular window closes on this friday; I'm not sure about the alternative dates.

Yeah I'm not going into details. Why would I want to give someone else an advantage if we're being compared against each other?

Do they have alternate dates? I mean you have an entire week to take it.

Theone, have you entered the olympiad before? Last year there was somebody with a screename like "biomaster" who regailed us with his tales of his complete mastery of the subject. We had fun laughing at his posts while at the USABO without him. I wish everybody luck, it's a great experience, hopefully the year of rust on my bio-skills didn't hurt me too much in the open exam. The only advice I will offer is study hard and listen to pea_sea, she was there too.

^^^^ We'll see what happens this year, b****

So now that it's over, anyone have any thoughts about this year's open exam?

Easier than last year's...I think the cutoff will increase.

hrm I had greater trouble this year than last. then again I'm down with the flu, people were playing ping-pong outside the door continuously and I studied much less. owell. shrug

My son doesn't know anyone who has taken this before. He took it today and said he thought he did okay as far as answering questions, but he's not really sure what that means in terms of qualifying. Does anyone know from past years about what it takes to qualify? Thanks.

I think the general consensus is that we need at least half the questions right.

With more and more people participating each year, the cutoff is going to keep going up. Needing up to even 30 to make the semis wouldn't be too surprising. (It was 50 questions again, right?)

26 last year, 24 the year before I think? so 28-ish this year would seem about right, depending on how many schools joined this year.

typically are the alternative date exams the same as the regular date exams?

tilos - nah, it's my first bioly.

When do we find out the results?
