USABO 2011 Discussion!

i thought the natural selection question was the choice that read “improved mean fitness.”
also, @College11235, what is the reason behind doubled absorbance? To me all of the answer choices could have worked.

Hey, does anyone know what the cutoff point is?

Hey guys,

When and how do we find out if we made it to semis?

^ maybe in 2 days maybe in 13… there are conflicting reports on the CEE website.

How do we check results? Does the teacher only have access to the scores or do we also have access in the student resource center?

According to the Calendar, it says March 4th.

And if you click under student’s corner it says download your exam score which is currently unhyperlinked, but presumably will be. So hopefully, since it was under the student’s corner, we will get access too…

There is way too much conflicting information on their website.

[2011 USABO: Open Exam results posted to the TRC and announcement of Semifinalists | Center for Excellence in Education](http://www.cee.org/event/2011/03/08/2011-usabo-open-exam-results-posted-trc-and-announcement-semifinalists)

can you guys explain the negative feedback one? about the steroid hormone

because it was a steroid hormone, i thought inducer because steroids can specifically go through the plasma membrane and then through the nuclear membrane to alter gene expression… (definition of inducer i thought?)

idk, i think it depends on the wording of the question (as do most of these questions.)

Arsenal - I checked the student reference center or somesuch and there was nothing about exam scores. Could you send me a direct link?

iBelieveSo:
“Negative feedback occurs when the output of a system acts to oppose changes to the input of the system, with the result that the changes are attenuated. If the overall feedback of the system is negative, then the system will tend to be stable.”
Also definition of a negative feedback loop. The input being lack of [something I don’t remember], and the response of the body to make the deficiency go away, by the user of steroids. It’s basically homeostasis of that [something I don’t remember] as far as I can tell, stabilizing the something via steroid hormone activation.

if you just go to the main page: [CEE | USA Biology Olympiad](http://www.usabo-trc.org/)

and click on student corner (without logging in) one of the choices in grey is
DOWNLOAD YOUR EXAM SCORE
(REQUIRES REGISTRATION)

so hopefully, it will be linked to your score tomorrow and all you need to do is sign in…

i hope it isn’t teacher only…

@Arsenal4vr - thanks! I guess I didn’t see that before because I logged in. One more day, hopefully!

Did they just change the score release date to the 9th? …

Where did you get that?

When I went back to the 2011 calendar, it apparently updated from March 4 to March 9…well anyway, we’ll find out tomorrow.

indeed: Mar 9th
Semi-finalists posted to website (top 10% or 500 students

if anyone got past semis and would like to trade for semis/opens, pm me.

Waiting absolutely kills me…

Well, I see no signs of scores today, but did find that scores should be posted for us to access ourselves:

@emblem: can you post the open exam test? I really would like to take a look at the problems, IF it is allowed
