USABO 2017-2018

@BrownieMotion Thanks! High honors doesn’t get notified on the website. It takes about 3 weeks for the certificate to be mailed.

That feeling when you miss the cutoff by less than two points… ~X(

Aw @ZyaXantos, sorry to hear that. Though you do have High Honors in the bag! Unlike me, I’m sitting here with a score that might just be high enough (86.00) and I’m waiting anxiously. If anyone gets the high honors certificate please let the thread know with ur score!

The histogram was released. https://imgur. com/1GSmz3H (remove the space)

Manually counting, it seems the high honors cutoff is 84. Someone should check my counting.

that’s what I got too, but it seems like they only represented integer scores, not partial points, so it could probably be anywhere within .5 of 84

are we expected to memorize chemical groups like hydroxyl carbonyl carboxyl etc

@avgsopho1223 yes

@everyone how specifically do we need to know the information in Campbell and Raven’s? Do we need to memorize all the amino acid structures and structures of many proteins, the functions? Do we need to memorize every little thing there is?

Does anyone know which chapters of Alberts 6th edition, Ravens 8th edition, Lehringer 5th edition can I leave out. Tryna not waste time.

@staticjava How much should we know on functional groups? Also, is there a list of topics we need to know for USABO?

Hi there: Can someone please tell me how I can get practice tests or previous exams. My teacher told me she cannot give me anything?

@Lelouch2020 head to biolympiads, they have opens 2004-2017 and semis 2004-2015.
@staticjava for amino acids we must know properties of every amino acid, i.e. whether it is polar, non-polar, charged etc.
@wontonandrice there is this post https://www.usabo-trc.org/src-content-information. also I was reading Martyna’s book ‘How to prepare for the biology olympiad and science competitions’ and there are some chapters on must-know topics for biochemistry, molecular biology, animals and plants.

@Student54322 I assume this is what you are looking for: https://biolympiads.com/recommended-chapters-from-key-textbooks-for-the-biology-olympiad/. I used this list to make my study plan. Many chapters from Albert’s are not necessary indeed.

How close to the 2019 tests are the open exams that are released?

@masterextemper the latest one that is available is 2017 USABO Open exam.

Hello all! Im new this CC so forgive me for being a noob. I prepping for USABO next year. does anyone know good resource books for open and semi exams? thank you!
