My son received the principal nomination in December. A week after he received a disqualification for asthma and was told he should apply for a waiver. He applied for the waiver and also included a letter from his doctor stating he did not have asthma after 10 years old. The doctor explained it was an inflammation issue and had never interfered with his years of league soccer and cross country. All of this was sent in the end of December and we haven’t heard anything. The domberg site shows he is being considered for waiver. Is there anyone we could contact?

I would call DoDMERB because they process all of that stuff.

Also, did he apply for a waiver from the individual institution?? A lot of the waivers are evaluated by the doctor at the academy and they are the ones who ultimately give the waiver. Asthma is a hard one, but it is possible to get over it. I had one attack in my life 4 years ago but they still selected me, even made me potential pilot qualified. So, moral of the story is call dodmerb, call and write the academy and don't give up.

DoDMERB is the organization that approves ALL waivers for admission to the academies. There aren't individual waivers. Later, each service can set standards for things like vision when one is applying to pilot training...
