haha that's nuts... ah, the feeling of finally being 18! hahaha :) yep, i'm sending in my iron papers tomorrow... oh what've i done signing myself up to be a lab mouse for the u.s. air force!

...almost 21...finally. Although rental car stuff is still going to be a pain for another couple years!...and I can't be a Senator yet. ;)

nor president ;)

edit: weird to think about...i'll only be 21 when i graduate. well, hopefully anyway :D

One of my squadmates has it pretty bad...he doesn't turn 21 till after graduation (yikes!).

geez now that's a youngun!

Got my literature in the mail yesterday as well, not to sure if I am up for bein a test subject, but if it helps thatd be sweet...

aw, poor guy can't even go to a bar til after he graduates? that's lame ;)
i've already done my fair share of complaining that I can't drink 'til senior year haha

You guys and gals ought to think about the zinc study. It could be greatly beneficial if you get the "real" stuff. Well known to be good for the immune system...

I was wondering, are vitamin supplements or zinc pills allowed during basic training, or is it just assumed that we are getting what we need from the food? What about pain killers like advil, how often could you get those? Just curious because if the study is the only way I could get iron, then I will definitely want to do it, otherwise, I'd rather just take iron on my own

Hmmmm, you'll be issued advil and/or tylenol, but I'm not sure about vitamin supplements. I would assume, though, that the nutritionists would prefer to take care of your health themselves. I'm sure that the food will "contain all the nutrients you need," so they'll probably view vitamin supplements as unnecessary.

Not 100% sure on that though...

Could always buy some vitamins at your first C-store visit in BCT.

oh, that's good to know...

I know you can't take most medications with you to BCT, but can parents bring vitamins/iron/zinc etc. to you during Parents' Weekend and are you free to take them? Or is participation in the study the only way you're allowed to have them?

Cadets are free to take pretty much whatever they want--AFTER BCT (as long as there is not a specific rule against it).

i got that in the mail a couple of days ago as well. i am looking at the acclimation one and i would like to try it, but i DONT want to get a placebo and have to do all the research stuff anyways. by the way, how much time will the research part take up? i know the pamphlet says that the "appointments" are from 5-50 minutes, but then it talks about excersize stuff we will have to do also.

i apologize if i am sounding a bit selfish!!

2012mom, you will be able get those sort of simple OTC meds/vits for your cadet. Many parents will send a package with snacks, cold stuff etc. you do need to be carefull though becuase some products could cause difficulties with drug testing.

undercover- yeah, i signed up for it but i really DONT want it to take my time away if i get the placebo. 4dig life is gonna be stressful enough anyway

the doctor in charge said you'll get extra passes for participating
(before telling me i wasn't eligible ;) )
