Hey I was jus wondering how USC's admissions compare to top schools like Northwester, Harvard, Stanford etc. For example, I was rejected from Northwestern, would that garuntee or increase the likely hood for a rejection from USC? Or do you figure that what the schools are looking for in students differ to greater amount that both admission processes can't be compared?
-sorry if this relates to the admissions discussion, I thought it was a little different.

In today’s world it appears nearly impossible to predict which students will be selected by elite universities.

USC’s acceptance rate will be about 18-19% this year (based on the 51,000 applicants number). That is both a useful but, on an individual basis worthless, point of comparison. You could also look up the middle 50% range of test scores for each school. That said, unless you are clearly unqualified, you just cannot predict these things or use another school’s rejection/acceptance to make conclusions.

You are comparing apples to oranges. I know of several students who were rejected by NW but accepted at USC. And vice versa. The colleges are looking to build a “class” of interesting students out of a pool of academically strong students. That means that with most things being within a certain range (scores, grades, etc.) the balance may tip based on some subjective item such as an extracurricular, which staff members are reading the files, etc.

Georgia Girl is correct. It is impossible to predict which students will be accepted at any given college. From year to year the best possible answer is “it just depends.” (and has no real correlation to what another college decided.)
