USC Chances

Any input would be greatly appreciated. Of course, it is ultimately up to the admissions officers to decide my fate, but perhaps you guys know a thing or two (or a million) about admissions chances at USC. :)

Korean Male

Suburban Public School (Population: 2100+ students)
3.8 / 4.0 Unweighted
4.26 Weighted (although I think USC will start to use Unweighted GPA this year)
Rank: approximately 5 out of about 550 (I'm in the top 1% of my graduating class, so I'm somewhere between 4-6... 5 is a guess).

SAT I: 2110 (690 Math, 700 Critical Reading, 720 Writing)
SAT II: Took Math Level 2, Biology E, and Literature in November

I took the most demanding courses my school offers, which is going through the International Baccalaureate (IB) Program.

AP Tests:
U.S. History - 4/5
English Langauge and Composition - 3/5
Music Theory - 3/5
Biology - (this year)
Calculus BC - (this year)
English Literature and Composition - (this year)

IB Tests:
Geography SL - 5/7
Music Theory SL - 5/7
Spanish B SL - (this year)
English A HL - (this year)
Math HL - (this year)
Biology HL - (this year)

California Scholarship Federation (CSF): 4 years (Frosh - Freshman Rep, Junior - Treasurer, Senior - President)
Varsity Golf: 1 year (Freshman)
JV/Varsity Badminton: 3 years (Sophomore, Junior, Senior expected)
*Note: I love both golf and badminton, but because they are in the same season, I eventually could only choose one sport (badminton).
Braille Institute volunteer: 86.5 hours
Community Library volunteer: approximately 43 hours
NHS member: 3 years (Sophomore (earliest one can be an NHS member), Junior, Senior)
Church volunteer (every Sunday)

Recommendations: 1 from an IB/AP English teacher who is traditionally known to write excellent letters of recommendation. 1 from an IB/AP Biology teacher who has a Ph.D, but am unsure of how well she writes letters of rec. The reason I'm going with the latter choice as my second letter of rec. is because I'm also going to ask her to write me a letter of rec. for the Baccalaureate MD program at USC.

Essays: I think I'm a pretty good writer. In fact, I'm certain that my essays on the AP English Language and Composition exam allowed me to score a 3 on the exam. The MC section was absolutely hideous to me.

Do you guys need any other information?

I think you have a pretty good chance.

I second sirwatson. I can't say that you're a top contender for a scholarship, though.

Yeah... I realize that, haha.

how are USC’s sciences? and what are the stats for bacc/MD program? do SAT II’s need to be submitted?

i am indian btw … if that has any affect on my chances

You should create your own thread.

o’neal with a 1920, I think you have a shot at getting in. I cannot say you will get in. With a 2100, I would feel a lot more confident. Being Indian wont affect your chances at all. Indians are THE highest represented minority by percentage in college, so u are in fact over-represented.

when you say health award do you mean an award you got in your health class???!!!

to OP:

general admission you’re probably fine.

BA/MD? you’re way on the low end.

OP started this thread in 2005 and he/she is already at USC!

oneal32- Start your own thread, as Columbia_Student suggested so you can get opinions about YOUR chances.

lol that’s funny. i should pay more attention to dates. oh well, i guess my brain isn’t working too well due to studying for finals. woohoo physiology!

i was gonna start my own thread but i don’t get many responses lol
and health award meaning i had highest grade in the class … which isn’t very hard to do but it was a required elective and since i got it might as well list it
