Glad you got your answer. Would love to hear from anyone that gets one of the additional NMF grants as well–not sure when that happens or who gets it…
I just got my financial aid summary and the National Merit Presidential Scholarship isn’t there. Is anyone else missing it? I get no aid otherwise…
Also, I called the admissions office yesterday about the $2500 additional scholarship from NMF. It stacks on top of Presidential btw
@actuallysad Re the scholarship, at what point in time did you list USC as your #1 choice with USC? Did you get the $2500 award? Congratulations–looks like we whiffed on that one as my understanding is most of those were awarded last week by NMSC. Not sure when the USC sponsored awards appear ($1000 renewable) or if they already have?
@mickey2017 I listed it as my first choice when I initially submitted the NMSC application back in October, and yes I did get the $2500 award. There’s nothing on my portals about the $1000 award though but I’m aware that you can’t get both the $1000 and $2500 awards.
I would think you would get the 1/2 scholarship soon then. If it doesn’t show up next week, I’d probably call to inquire because I’m a worrywart but others who have been through the process may tell you different…
Anyone get the $1000/yr. USC NMF scholarship awad?
Every NMF gets it, but only after you name USC as your first choice school with NMSC. They only update the colleges on the first of each month, so make sure you have USC down by May 1st.
I don’t think that’s right @18yrcollegemin. Every NMF gets 1/2 tuition. The $1000/yr not necessarily I believe. We named USC long ago and got the 1/2 tuition already. Anybody have additional info?
I only have the half-tuition Presidential Scholarship deducted so far. Did not apply for Financial Aid. Does the $1000/year only apply to those who have won NMS?
You will not see the $1k until after the NMSC tells USC that you have selected USC as your first choice. It will show up after that. My son is a junior NMF. You have to renew with NMSC every March. You get the $1K unless you won a corporate NMF scholarship or the one-time $2500 award directly from NMSC.
His name was in the first group sent by NMSC to USC. As I said we got the 1/2 tuition shortly after decisions were released. It would be great if everyone got the $1000 additional but this is the first I have heard that. I think your son was fortunate (and deserving) but I don’t know that it’s a given. Is there a reason you think it automatic that I am missing? My DS did not get a corporate or $2500 award.
Would still appreciate hearing from anyone who has gotten the $1000/yr award this year from USC. Thanks!
A thought…maybe you have to enroll first? Still not decided here.
Yes, you have to enroll first. The $1k/yr scholarship is how USC supports you as a National Scholar. There are 3 ways that you can advance from NMF to a National Scholar: sponsorship directly from nmsc, from a corporate sponsor, or from a college sponsor. If you look on page 9 of the student guide found on the nationalmerit.org website, you will see that college sponsorships only range from $500 to $2000 per year. The Presidential 1/2 tuition nmf scholarship that USC gives is different, as are all the large NMF scholarships from other universities. It is something USC gives to their NMF students, but it is not sponsorship. They have to give this award to claim they have x number of National Scholars. Believe me if you want.
Thanks for info, I understand. Did not mean to offend you if that’s the case. The extra $ would be nice if that’s where he ends up.
So we just got the $1000/yr scholarship added to our financial page. You do not have to enroll for it to appear (S has not enrolled yet).
@mickey2017 Congratulations on the $1000/yr scholarship. My D has’t received it yet. Will she be eligible for the $1k/year if she already got a Trustee (Full Tuition) scholarship?
