^^ I just checked my email and the common app sent me the confirmation email that I submitted the app and writing supplement 12/1 so I should be fine right?
@flower12love You will be fine, you submitted on time. It is time-stamped at submission, downloading it is different. No worries and good luck!
if i submitted my app by dec 1 are senior year grades taken into consideration for the merit awards?
Agree with @CADREAMIN
@robotmachine I believe you can send in those grades if you want to. Can’t hurt.
@devon123 Just curious… How does the flight subsidy work? I read somewhere that out-of-state interviewees get reimbursed half the airfare, up to $200. Do they need to submit a receipt? What if they use frequent-flyer miles?
soon, guys!
only 3 more months to go haha
Re: ROSKI - I have not seen any mention of ROSKI art school in this thread. Does anyone have an idea of how many freshman admits there are to Roski each year? And are any of these students considered for Dean’s scholarship and above? Thanks in advance for your input,
I suspect merit scholarship consideration will come out within the next two weeks, based on previous years results. Good luck to everyone!
@SOoverthis Last year’s freshman profile said 17% of the class, or about 570, were in art schools (Roski, Thornton, etc.) combined. And a Daily Trojan article from 2010 said that Roski usually gives about 10 to 12 Trustee/Presidential scholarships.
@SOoverthis We attended the Roski information meeting and they said to get applications in by the December deadline as they award scholarships. No specific number of awarded scholarships was given. So, not sure if the 10 - 12 mentioned above is still accurate. I feel that some of the attention has been drawn from Roski by the newer Iovine and Young Academy and other art programs in the film school, which may be why it is not mentioned much in these threads.
Anyone here applied for PoliSci?
If you are not chosen for scholarships or to interview for scholarships in late January, will you get a notification in your portal that indicates that? or will you get no notification at all?
also does anyone know the date when we are expecting USC to release those scholarship notifications this year?
I really wanna go to USC but I applied for CS… Any idea how hard it is to get in for CS? At some of the other schools I’ve applied to I’ve been declined from CS specifically (like at Purdue).
Credit to @CADREAMIN for this basic recap. She created a recent thread on the Merit Scholarship Process, but it seems that many keep asking the same questions here.
Approximately 1200 applicants will hear the news Re: Merit Scholarships between 1/19 to 1/26… likely on a date in the middle. Specifically, they are invited to proceed to the next phase of consideration for the top awards. About 100 are given Dean’s (1/4th tuition scholarships) and do not interview for bigger one. Some additional Dean’s have also been given in March, but not the bigger ones.
Therefore, 30K+ applicants who applied by Dec 1st will NOT get a scholarship or invitation to interview for a scholarship in January and will have to wait until March with the other 20K+ students that applied after December 1st. 98% of all 55K+ total applicants thus learn their fate in late March.
A letter is added to your portal if you did not receive a scholarship when portals are updated for those that applied by December 1st, 3-4 days after packages are mailed. It will say that you are still being considered for admission, hearing the results by late March. No one is rejected in January.
Last year, the white boxes were mailed out via the U.S. Postal Service (regular mail deliveries) on Monday Jan 23rd. Portals started updating on Wed night/Thursday morning at 12:50am. In 2016 and other years before that, they were sent on a Friday (January 22nd in 2016). So they could be mailed out on Friday again this year. If so… portals should update Tuesday night after midnight pacific time.
If you get the package, you are accepted. The package includes an acceptance letter and tells you what major/school you got into and which scholarship. Some will also include invitations to interview for a higher level scholarship with brochures like “Explore USC/Trustee’s Finalist” or other info relative to your specific scholarship. It will direct you to log into your portal to sign up for interview and other tasks. Your portal will have changed or will in the next 24 hours or so.
You will not interview for higher scholarship if there isn’t an invite to do so included in your package.
If you DO NOT get scholarship info within your package but did get the JANUARY white box/acceptance package, in the past it has always meant that yes, you are accepted, and with the Dean’s which is 1/4 tuition.
For even more details… read it on Cadreamin’s Merit Scholarship thread.
And good luck to all…
@traveler2000,
I just read through the 2017 thread and although much is speculation, it appears that in past years, the merit letters were mailed the third Friday of January, not usually the last Friday. If this is true, it is quite possible letters/boxes will be mailed this Friday, January 19th. If we go by last year, it could be Monday, January 22nd. If one calls USC Admission Office, they will likely say “students will hear by end of January” since they apparently have a philosophy to surprise students with mail rather than an email or portal update. If they mail them out Friday, I think it may be possible that a portal will update three days later which would ostensibly be Tuesday, Jan 23. If mailed out Monday, Jan 22, portal might update by Thursday/Friday Jan 25/26, best guess. Of course it’s all a guess! I agree, full credit to @CADREAMIN who had some very informative and helpful posts on last year’s thread, as well as @WWWard . Fight on and good luck to all!
hi everyone. im a 2022 usc applicant and i wanted to know what is the process for the trustee/presidential scholarship? do you interview on campus or is it a remote situation? im kinda confused on all of this ive been looking it up but im still unclear
Good luck all!
@ChenXiaoYun Thanks for replying earlier to my question. As we are anxiously waiting to hear from USC regarding scholarships, I wanted to ask you when your daughter got her scholarship notification. My son is applying for dance and has his audition scheduled end of this month. I wonder if he were qualified for academic scholarship, would he have to wait till after audition to hear from them?
