Anyone know when/where IYA sends their interview weekend invites? Should I be waiting for the portal update or looking for an email? Almost there guys!
USC is my son’s dream school. If he is not offered merit scholarship… any idea on when decision notifications might be? I know the website say by 4/1. Hoping he does not have to wait that long. Also, would love to have opinion on his chances (Computer Science):
Out of state (Rhode Island):
3.8 unweighted 4.1 weighted
1530 SAT
8 AP’s
Highest Ranking Public school in the state
Many EC’s (Eagle Scout, Foster Dog Volunteer, Peer tutoring, Lifeguard, several sports, class president freshman year, National Honor Society) Alot of community service
Regular decisions generally roll out between March 15-20th.
Mid-year grades are not considered for scholarships, since scholarship decisions will be finalized before all schools release mid-year transcripts, so USC will only look at freshman - junior grades. Hopefully we will be getting scholarship notifications next week; I am so nervous but at this point we can only wait and hope for the best! Good luck everyone!!!
Hey folks… so I submitted CSS and FAFSA a while ago but I can’t find it at all on my portal. Is anyone else having this problem?
Does anyone know how hard/competitive it is to get into Neuroscience for USC?
so what r the chances white boxes start appearing for some tomorrow??
my css and fafsa are posted
@123lavv1 I heard both neuroscience and cognitive science are really small majors because not a lot of people know what they are, so not many apply. From what I’ve seen on here, I haven’t seen more than 5 neuro/cog sci majors. Even though this obviously isn’t the entire application pool, I’d say it’s one of the lesser applied to majors
@whathaveidone5 I think if they’re sent tomororw the earliest we’ll start to see them is Saturday
I am an international student; I live in Eastern Europe. Packages take long to be delivered to my house from abroad, especially the USA. Will notification of scholarship be done solely through snail mail?
Also, if you are not chosen for merit consideration, do you still get notified about your status?
Supposedly the portals online will be updated a few days after the scholarship packages are sent via snail mail. Here’s the helpful link someone posted.
Portals are going under matinence on sunday!! Maybe they are adding in the letters…who knows. My guess is we will find out tuesday
I think packages will be sent soon - I looked back to last year and my son got an email on Jan 26th from USC that stated he should have already received his admissions packet. We set up the US Postal service tracking and were able to see it coming! Good luck to all of you waiting! My DS18 applied too but no way he’ll get any scholarship/merit aid - he may well not get accepted but we’ll hope for good news in March.
@whathaveidone5, if past is prologue, based on the last two or three years, the scholarship packages will be sent in all likelihood today or Monday. Thus, about a 50/50 chance (my best guess) that if sent today, people in the Southern CA area and near USC should start to receive them tomorrow.
If not today, I would think Monday January 22 would be the next most likely scenario, given last year they were sent on a Monday, January 23. However, from what I read, in past years prior to last year, they were most often sent on a Friday. So a 50% chance some might get some exciting mail tomorrow, maybe 50% it would be Tuesday. Of course, they could completely change and mail on another day next week, even as late as Friday, January 26th (seems late).
@CollegeGal223 I agree that if portals are closed for maintenance on Sunday, it would seem to hint that they are preparing the system for something, whether that be to input the results or (I am not an IT person) could be tinkering with the system to deal with the likely overload at some point next week with thousands checking the portal. If scholarships are sent today, I suppose that is possible that the portals will reflect the changes maybe Mon/Tue? I think others have posted that portals update after midnight about three days after they are sent so that might mean Tuesday early morning? Your guess is as good as mine!
Either way, it appears that many might know in the next 1-5 days, if they are mailed today or Monday.
If we have not received a scholarship, are we still notified about it?
My guess, based on the portals being temporarily down this weekend, is that they will be going out via snail mail (U.S. Postal Service / Not UPS, etc.) today… with portal updates likely in the overnight hours between Tuesday and Wednesday. Those updates, when they occur, will confirm whether you are moving forward in the merit process or not. If not… your decision has simply been held over until late March. No one is actually rejected until March at the earliest. Of course, they could also go out Monday. In the past, they have gone out on both Fridays and Mondays as I recall.
Good luck to all those waiting… but try not to be discouraged if the news is not what you were hoping for. In total, over 55K applied last year, and only around 1000-1200 knew that they were admitted by January. The other 8000 or so admitted were admitted in March.
Hi! You may receive one of two letters:
a letter offering you admission and financial aid or a letter saying that unfortunately you are no longer being considered for a merit scholarship but that you are still being considered for admission to the university. Kind of similar to being deferred I guess, but no reason to get your hopes down because of how competitive USC merit based need is!! Hope this helped and fight on!
Just asked USC admissions on Snapchat. Letters go out tuesday the 23rd, and you’ll be able to check online on Friday!
what are typically the stats of merit scholarship receivers?
