@SOoverthis I feel that USC admissions go through your academic records 1st. If you have those scores, then they pass your supplement materials to the fine arts schools. You have to fly in to have the live audition and it would be waste of time and money if you don’t qualify academically. When we told our private teacher that my son was going to apply for USC, his 1st reaction was “Does he have the scores”? The teacher is a graduate of Thornton school many years ago and he said back in his days, they only required a below 3.0 GPA. He also said he had other students wanted to apply for USC but did not have the 3.9 kind of GPAS. Also when my son interviewed with the RHP Director over the phone, he emphasized that USC is a university not a Conservatory and they want all students to be well rounded, not just be good at his own major or area of study.
@kcheves I really hope you’re right. - my D is one. I don’t know what the truth is, but honestly I don’t believe everything admissions tell me.
I spoke with an admissions counselor at USC who said that she was unaware of any portal update tonight. She also said that the boxes continue to be sent out and that all will be informed by February 1
Um on informed delivery it says I have a package coming from Compton, CA that was sent out on January 23 and is in transit for today. I am incredibly nervous.
@caleegalee My S is in the same boat. I have a strong suspicion that if he doesnt get one of these packages that the going will be tougher in March, I hope not.
I just checked informed delivery and I don’t have a package coming. I live in the D.C. area, so shouldn’t packages come today? Does this mean I did not get a scholarship? Is there still hope for me?
Has anyone outside of the LA area gotten a package yet? I’m in the northeast and wondering if I should have expected something to arrive today (if I was selected, of course).
I got my package in eastern PA! I’m still shaking and am trying to stop crying. Nominated for full tuition.
GPA: 3.94
W GPA: 4.53
AP: AP English this year; school offers few APs
Course rigor: all honors that I could take. One AP and rest DE senior year.
ACT: 33
ECs: President of newspaper, secretary of debate.
Hooks: First-gen, hispanic
My stats seemed low so I have no idea how this happened. USC has been my top school since the beginning of my college search. I guess this just goes to show how crazy this whole process can be! Congrats to everyone else who got in! Good luck to those still waiting!
Congratulations, @carmen00 <:-P
@carmen00 Congrats!! Thanks for sharing your stats!!
@wchatar2 That’s what I mean. I mean, why wouldn’t they award a finalist who is qualify to get in, cuz if that person gets in, they get scholarship anyway.
so, my question is… has anyone been a nmsf and didn’t make this scholarship round, but ended up getting in and getting the scholarship???
what color is the package this year??
@caleegalee white
@caleegalee, by all accounts that’s exactly what happens. Most NMF’s aren’t admitted until March, at which time they are offered the 1/2 scholarship if they select USC as their #1 choice. No one is a finalist yet, so I wouldn’t expect NMSF status to be a significant driver of scholarship decisions in this first round.
I am so triggereD. I got a letter from USC today and it was from the financial aid office and I was oh no. But it was just another brochure thing lol. But does this mean anything?
@caleegalee Im sure there are a lot of kids who didnt get the scholarship who were NMF who got in. The question in my mind is whether it makes admission harder. It seems logically that it would but, as Ive learned going through this a couple of times. logic has very little to do with college admissions. But yes, if we dont get a scholarship offer Im not going to sleep as well as i could have between now and March, not that Im sleeping that well anyway…
Actually a lot of Trustee’s end up also being NMF. Same with Presidential, because NMF tend to be qualified kids overall. You are not discriminated against now for being NMF in any way. You are just not evaluated on being that since they aren’t technically out yet. Of course these scholarships (NMF, Presidential and Trustee) do not stack.
Congrats @carmen00 !
Mail came today and no white package. I’m in the so cal area.3.98/4.69, 35 ACT, 800 chem 770 M2, Chem, USH, Lang 5, Euro 4
Applied to Marshall.
Still not giving up hope until the portal updates, but I’m pretty bummed.
@nammyohorengekyo I got the same mail, which was so annoying because it was dated 1/9 and it just got to me today! Did anyone else get it? It is a thin envelope that says thank you for applying for USC, and you should apply for financial aid. I am from Northeast.
@kcheves ah, that makes sense. thanks!
