**Decision: Accepted **

Date applied: before December 1? Seeing as that was the deadline for my program, don’t remember the exact date
Date decision postmarked/received: 3/28
Accepted at which school/major at USC: School of Cinematic Arts for Interactive Media

Stats:[ul]
[] SAT Total: M: 700, CR: 780, WR: 620
[] ACT: nope
[] SAT Subject Tests: Not that great… Lit: 700, Bio: 650, US History: 650
[] GPA-UW/W: 3.5 UW/3.8 W
[] Rank: school doesn’t rank
[]AP/IB classes: 10.5 APs and honors classes I think?
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Essays: I like to think that they’re pretty good… My personal statement was really creative, I did a multimedia collage-type thing in Illustrator and Photoshop that incorporated my essay. My writing sample wasn’t the best piece of creative writing I’ve done, but it wasn’t too shabby either.
[] Teacher Recs: Really great, apparently. One from my APUSH and AP Human Geo teacher who knows me really well from having me in two classes in one year, the second academic from my English teacher who I’m basically friends with (as in, we still go get coffee sometimes). Then a third supplemental one from my photography/AP Studio Art teacher who I think really likes/respects me as an artist.
[] Counselor Rec: Probably alright… our relationship isn’t too great, but I think she likes me well enough.
[] EC highlights: Lots… editor of my school newspaper and literary arts magazine, tons of art stuff (Scholastic Art and Writing Awards, work shown in galleries, etc.), professional freelance graphic design/photography, Model UN (won some awards junior year), summer camp counselor/teacher’s aid at Hebrew school/babysitter to help pay for college myself…[/ul]
Location/Person:[ul][] State or Country: California
[] School Type: Private
[] Ethnicity: white middle class… doesn’t get much more average than me.
[] Gender: Female[/ul]Other Factors, hook?: AP Scholar, National Merit Commended, nothing too great… I am a girl who applied for Interactive Media which is pretty rare, that may have been what swung it for me.

General Comments, scholarship chances, status info, going to USC…?: I want to do video game design, and USC is consistently ranked as having the top program. I’m still waiting to hear from NYU Gallatin though, and I also got into UCSC’s game design program, which is also awesome. I’m also on the wait list at UChicago, which I love, so if I get off of that list, who knows… But USC is up there on my list, there’s a pretty big chance I’ll go there. Have to wait on financial aid too, though…

Decision: ACCEPTED

Date applied: 11/20/11
Date decision received: 3/28/12

Teacher Recs: Very Strong
Counselor Rec: Very Strong

EC highlights: Eagle Scout (restored bird of prey rehabilitation facility for his Eagle Scout Project). He’s very social and outgoing, but not a club-type person and no organized sports. Grew up without TV. Loves to read, draw, hike, & make films. Grew up in a falconry family. Won 3 animation awards. Strong, inventive portfolio with 3 hand-drawn animations & observant, biting cartoons. Strong artistic voice.

State or Country: Orange County, CA
School Type: Public
Ethnicity: Caucasian

Other Factors: Grandfather USC class of '51.

General Comments: Son feels EXTREMELY PRIVILEGED to be accepted at School of Cinema Arts. OVER-THE-MOON! Will be choosing between USC and Chapman-Dodge, his top two. He likes LMU (Anim) very much and is in at UCSD/UCSB. Rejected at UCI–goofy!
He LOVES Chapman-Dodge and huge merit/talent scholarship there will make it hard to turn down. Financially, USC is a real reach for our family. Still, what an honor that he was accepted to USC–a confoundingly wonderful, gorgeous, happy dilemma for DS!

^Rejected at UCI!? Sounds like Tufts Syndrome to me…
