I may have to take 2 W’s because of an instructor. Despite meeting in office several times and studying consistently, I still not absorbing the material. I am a political science major and I have Geology 110 and 110L both USC GE.
Here are my grades
HS
GPA: 3.49
ACT: 18
SAT: 1200
College Stats
Semester 1: 3.8
Units: 16
Semester 2: N/A
Units 12 (Previously 16)
The first exam, did not go so well and all in all, I don’t feel well at all. The other 4 classes, I really believe in my heart that I can acheive A’s in all of them. But by taking 2 W’s to the chest, am I done?
I had exactly 2 Ws, but I also had a 4.0 and got accepted to everywhere I applied (USC/UCLA(regents)/Cal) except for Claremont McKenna. It won’t put you out of the running, but it’s not going to do you any favors either. Definitely keep your GPA and ECs up to give them other reasons to accept you. Take no more Ws henceforth.
Your semester 3 performance is going to be critical to clinching an acceptance.
Oh… probably. They’re going to ask you for a Spring Grade Request and if you dropped 2 classes, it’s very unlikely that they’ll you’ll get accepted once they see that. I mean even if they didn’t request your spring grades, most colleges would rescind your offer after finding out that you didn’t end up finishing one of the classes that you reported as being in progress on your application, much less two. Sophomore admits are a special case to begin with, so don’t feel bad for missing out this round. You’re still on track to graduate in 4 years if you transfer next year and you save 2 semesters of tuition.
I know and understand that a transfer’s life will be lonely. No. I am not starting USC my junior year. Starting USC my junior year would not be going to USC anymore. It will be just living in Los Angeles.
First of all, don’t blame the instructor unless everyone in the class needed to withdraw. Your Ws are really just in geology and it’s lab correct? Are you low income, URM or some other group that has pull on admission these days? Your app is in and while you certainly can’t count on getting in (no one can count on USC) you should read the Transfer Planning Guide. For example, it says:
In planning your transfer to USC, keep in mind the following:
You must complete two semesters of English composition before enrolling at USC.
At minimum, you should have completed Algebra II in high school or intermediate algebra in college, with a grade of C or better.
Concentrate on USC-transferable courses that build on your high school record, satisfy General Education and other requirements, and include preparation for your major.
There is no minimum number of transfer units you must complete before applying for admission. However, if you have completed fewer than 30 units, we will focus primarily on your high school record and scores from the SAT or ACT.
You must submit secondary school records and proof of graduation.
You would fall in the under 30 unit category. You could be proactive and send an email to admissions stating an update to your application and tell them you withdrew from the class and lab. Again, don’t blame the instructor. Who knows, maybe you have a hook that you aren’t mentioning or only they see on your app because you fit what they want otherwise. What were your plans if you didn’t get into USC regardless of the Ws? Again, no one should ever plan on getting in there, to tough to call. But don’t give up yet, just have a B plan. You should have had that anyway.
Why do you have 3 threads on the same topic? Not to be harsh, but are you just waiting for the answer you want to hear? Your best bet is to call admissions at USC or see an advisor at your current school which deals with transfers all the time, they will talk to you and give you more reliable info than you can get here since it is not a general question you have, but more particular circumstances. Hope it works out for you.
