Highlighter isn't bad. They did the hilighting for you

Um, question, is it better to buy the books from the bookstore so you can return them if you happen to add/drop a course? Or sell them at the end of the year?

i've got 9 books, 5 required. actually, one's MATLAB Primer, so i think that's a program. hooray engineering...?

MATLAB primer is a book I think, probably an introduction to MATLAB programming. You're probably taking an intro engineering class like AME 150 or EE 241 right?

There are tons of resources out on the internet for MATLAB (it's one of the most useful tools in engineering, maybe the most useful) that cover probably 99% of what that book covers. However, since you will likely be using MATLAB throughout your whole engineering career it is really useful to have a hard copy book you can reference.

I bought one textbook where the previous owner had highlighed every single word in each chapter :) It didn't really interfere, and I got it dirt cheap so it was ok. It was just kind of amusing since I can't really see the benefit of highlighting everything :)

Otherwise, used books usually come pretty clean of markings and highlightings.

EE105 actually. it says the MATLAB stuff (two things on my list, Primer and Guide) are optional...

another quick question while we're already on the subject...if i have a Freshman Engineering Academy (EE102), does my academy need to be with the professor in my department, Krishnamachari in EE? because when i registered at orientation, i registered with Spedding with AME...

I think you'll be fine in any of the freshman academys. They are designed to be accessable to all engineering majors including undecideds. It would be nice to take it with Krishnamachari (he's a really nice guy) but then again it's good to have interactions with people outside your dept. too.

momoney77, read the description of the book before you buy it. Books range from hardly used with no markings to dog-earred and written all over, although most tend to lean to the former.

With the regular books required for my Arts and Letters class, the non-text book ones, does it matter if we buy the book from the listed publisher? Because I have a folger copy of Hamlet, and it lists Bantam.

you might find that the page numbers are different between your copy and the rest of the class. Maybe it matters, maybe it doesn't. I'm not exactly sure how you might find out.

protokurios: thanks for the info. I think I'll just buy new. :)

has anyone taken BISC150? can you tell me which book you used because I'm not sure which book to get. on my list, it says: Human Genetics by Lewis, publ. McGrawHill but I found several books written by the same author with the words "human genetics" as part of the title.

I took BISC150 last year. It's a mediocre class, but the professors did not use the textbooks at all. The books are simply there to be supplemental reading, and all of the content on the midterm and final exams comes from the lecture material.

I would be happy to give/sell you the books I had for the class. They professors may have moved onto a newer edition, but it really wont matter.

Did anybody's list change now that it's August 7? I had 3 of 4 classes posted last week, but it turns out that I don't need to buy any books for the 4th class.

Our list did not change after August 7th.
