USC Gould School of Law Receives $5 Million Dollar Donation

Retired Judge Judith Hollinger '61 has donated $5 million dollars to the USC School of Law. The gift will establish a new program in alternative resolution and mediation. This field is growing in importance as courts become more and more crowded.

I am visiting L.A. with my parents and was just touring USC. We haven’t been there in several years. I was amazed with the huge capital investment in terms of the many new buildings, including Popovich Hall, Dauterive Hall, Annenberg, and the SCA. There were several coffee shops and cafeterias open and operating on Saturday for visitors too. SCA was truly amazing and inside looks like the Roosevelt Hotel, an old Hollywood landmark that hosted the first Academy Awards. The place looks and smells affluent, not that USC wasn’t that way in the 80s but it’s an entirely different level of quality today. Construction at the village is booming too. Kids were everywhere and visibly enjoying the 80 degree weather!

I went to the law school of course and a very handsome young man held open the front door for me and my father as we entered. It’s nice to see happy and polite students treating visitors with genuine smiles.

What a place, what a very special and absolutely gorgeous place.
