Hey everyone! I've been reading these forums for a long time, but I've finally decided to join so that I can get some help with a difficult decision.

I've been accepted to both the Ohio State University and the University of Southern California and am having trouble deciding where to go. On the one hand, OSU would cost about $27,000 whereas USC would cost about $35,000 (including room and board and scholarships for both, and OOS for both). I have visited OSU and I loved the campus, the honors program, city, and general friendliness of the people. I have not been able to go to LA to visit USC, but I have applied to the Freshman Science Honors Program and the school in general is ranked much higher than OSU. I plan on double majoring in biology and Spanish (being pre-med), but in all honesty I am not 100% sure of any of my future plans.

*Note that weather/location/sports is not really a factor since I consider both to be fine for me with regards to those subjects.

Please give me your input and help me figure out what I should do. Thanks!

it all depends on what you want to do. If you plan on staying in/moving to california, USC is probably better (75% of USC alumni stay in california) and USC may be looked at better if you get into graduate school. Wait till you visit LA until you make a decision.

USC is a good school; it’s even ranked higher than UCLA now (in one ranking lol)

As beyphy points out, if you plan on living on the West Coast after graduation then USC will have a stronger alumni/job network. As far as medical school, from what I’ve seen it’s going to be all about your GPA and MCAT score - I don’t think the perceived differences between the two schools will be a factor.

That said, as someone who currently lives in Ann Arbor, Michigan, I am hard pressed to come up with a single good reason to attend that vocational/technical school in Columbus. ;)

Congratulations! You have two excellent choices. Don’t think you can go wrong with either one–so it’s down to what will make you happy.

Being this is a USC board, I’ll just point out that you really need to come visit to make a good choice. The beauty of the campus, weather, and so on must be seen. Also, USC runs extremely smoothly. The advisers, administration, housing, professors are all fully dedicated to undergrad Trojans and there is a great campus vibe of togetherness among a diverse population.

Lastly, USC encourages students to take diverse double majors. Your interests really fit in here.

I live in Columbus, about 20 minutes away from campus.

Go to USC. OSU’s campus and surrounding area is not bad at all, but Columbus itself is a rather overlooked and forgotten city. With it’s obvious proximity to LA, USC will provide far more opportunities in general. OSU is also a public school and with the recent passage of Senate Bill 5, public education in Ohio is looking a little shaky right now.
