Which of these colleges is more reputable in biology, more specifically, animal biology? I want to major in prevet, and Im having trouble deciding which one to apply to between these two. I'll be applying to others, but for the sake of this thread, let's just only consider USC and UC Berkeley.

Probably Berkeley.

@DrGoogle why?

Berkeley is top in a lot if areas. But I think UC Davis probably better for pre vet.
USC is good in cinematic arts, accounting, music but in other areas Berkeley probably is better.

Since you’re out-of-state, Berkeley would cost a small fortune (at least $50,000 a year). It’d be incredibly stupid to pile undergraduate debt on top of vet school, which is very expensive. Vet salaries are fairly modest.

USC will also be expensive unless you get substantial financial aid. Run its [EFC calculator](http://www.usc.edu/admission/fa/applying_receiving/npc/).

If an OOS resident can’t figure out that attending a large public with it’s large classes, weak advising, etc. at the price of a private isn’t a poor choice, then let’s welcome them (and their $100K donation in OOS tuition) to the UC system!!

USC has over 18,000 undergraduates.

^ It’s still smaller than Berkeley’s ~26,000. Also, it’s not about the # of students -it’s about having a large enough # of faculty to proportionally keep up with the student population. USC’s faculty to student ratio is 9:1. Berkeley’s is 17:1.

Regardless, Berkeley would be too expensive for an OOS student. The OP might be better off @ USC, which meets USC-determined need. If the OP’s income is below a certain level, he/she could get sufficient aid. @giraffeinatree Run the net price calc: http://www.usc.edu/admission/fa/applying_receiving/npc/

USC has an honors program for science. RHP I believe. Smaller class than regular class.
