Usc or unc chapel hill?!

Hi everyone, I am truly truly torn between these two schools- University of Southern California and University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill

I am an OOS girl from Florida. I am going to do a pre-law emphasis, and major in philosophy at unc or philosophy politics and law at usc.

WHAT SHOULD I DO? Which school do you think would be better for me? Or which school do you think is better in general? Please feel free to discuss anything from school spirit, location, nightlife, academics, people, campus, food, etc.

Please help me. I visited unc and loved it so much, and I havent and dont think I will get the chance to go all the way to california before May 1st.

What do I do?

Hey! I am not helpful at ALL in regard to your major. However, I’m from North Carolina originally (I live in Asia now) and just yesterday chose between USC and NYU (which had been my dream school for several years) for film.

One major factor in my decision was the school spirit - I have never met someone who is affiliated with USC who wasn’t proud. They all seem to light up when they talk about SC. If you’re a person who likes urban environments, then obviously SC would be the better option - Los Angeles has the thriving nightlife and atmosphere that Chapel Hill can’t compete with.

I think you also need to consider state school (albeit one of the best state schools in the country - Chapel Hill is amazing) versus a private school. At Chapel Hill you will be surrounded predominately by North Carolinians (we’re awesome, we know, but I would think the lack of “where are you from” diversity would get slightly redundant). I don’t know exact percentages, but that was a drawback for me for both UCLA and UMich - although they are great schools, I think private schools have more to offer in terms of student diversity.

I am a total dork, so part of making my decision was making a comparison chart - I rated my schools on a scale of 1 - 5 - cost, location, weather, academics, diversity, etc. Look on the websites - see what your GEs would be. See which school has classes that interest you more. Look at images of the schools - where can you picture yourself more? Google is your friend. These forums are not always - bias is inevitable.

I don’t know you, but I know that I am comfortable with my decision to go to USC. I’m thrilled at the prospect of attending this fall. You have two amazing options, good luck with your choice.
