<p>The National Academy of Inventors (NAI) has named USC's President C. L. Nikias as a charter fellow. The 101 innovators elected to NAI fellowship status represent 56 univesities and research institutes. They hold more than 3.200 U.S. patents. Fellows were nominated by their peers for outstanding inventions with an impact on quality of life, economic development and welfare of society.</p>
<p>The Department of Defense has adopted a number of Nikias patents and innovations in sonar, radar and communication systems. Among other honors, President Nikias is a member of the National Academy of Engineering, a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and the American Association for the Advancement of Science.</p>
<p>On February 22 the charter class of NAI fellows will be inducted during the annual NAI conference in Tampa, FL.</p>
