Hey everyone… would t be inappropriate to call the professor that interviewed me, I feel like I didn’t take up the questions section at the end of my Skype interview as I only asked one question. He gave me his phone number and said that if I have any other questions to contact him but I’m not sure…
if you didn’t get an interview does that mean u didnt get in
im not sure! I don’t think not getting an interview means anything bc more often than not, people who didn’t get an interview are accepted!! an interview are for people they need clarification/ feel are on the bubble! i got an interview but im afraid i may not have a good chance at getting in because my SAT score is kinda low (in the lower 1300’s)
Does SCA only interview for film production? Or do they interview for Cinema and Media Studies as well?
@jerber I have not heard of them interviewing for Cinema and Media Studies. Even most production applicants are not actually interviewed. By now, the decisions have been reached… and you will know within 7 days. So do your best to find other distractions and diversions until then
Good Luck…
it’s a few days away! wishing the best for everyone…
YEET my friend Elliott got an interview for SCA directing/screenwriting (im sorry i don’t know the specific program). I applied for the Animation and Digital Arts major, and I did not get an interview, so fingers crossed I guess!
My son got into MAP last year and did not get an interview. They accepted 16 kids and 14 matriculated for that major. Btw, there are only four boys as freshmen in the major. Good luck all!!
do we know how many kids applied to the film major this year?? over 1k+?
SCA unfortunately does not announce such #s. I guess they like to keep it all a mystery.
But I heard from a few sources that claim to know that for film production around 1500 applied for the 50 or so spots last year. Given a projected yield rate of around 80% for SCA majors, that likely means that 60-62 were admitted then for film production so that they could end up with the desired 50.
Overall, USC’s application #s were up by 14% university-wide this cycle. If that is equally applied across all schools within USC, a potential good guess could then be as many as 1700 applicants for film production this year. Clearly the rumored 4% acceptance rate for film production seems to be a safe bet still then. It could be even falling slightly into the high 3s as a percentage admitted, given that the overall USC acceptance rate has already been announced as falling from 16% last year to 13% this year.
Good Luck. You shall soon know for sure… as decisions are being mailed out tomorrow.
And for those admitted to USC but not into SCA, keep in mind that internal transfers do have a slightly better acceptance rate than those applying for freshman admission. It worked for my daughter… and it could work for you too. So keep the faith… especially if USC SCA is your dream scenario.
Thank you @WWWard! I am nervous because it’s my top but I have a Plan B as I got accepted into Emerson (and maybe NYU) I am satisfied with! nothing can go wrong in my case!
Does USC prefer in state students like UCLA does? Do they get top priority? Thanks!
Not at all, it’s a private university so no preference (whereas UCLA is a CA public school) although a large percentage at USC are from CA. But they are also 30 something percent international, so it is super diverse.
In terms of SCA film production, are the majority of applicants accepted from California?
does sca care a lot about grades? my gpa is about the same as their average student, but my sat score is in the lower 1300s. does that mean im automatically vetted out?
@prepro986 You’re welcome. Yes - sounds like you have solid options.
@scholar1332 No… not necessarily. SCA is all about fit, creativity and what they see in you as potential. USC is private & selects whomever they deem warrants the admission.
@curiousgirl123 To a point… yes. But keep in mind that all applicants to USC must also be accepted by the university overall first. If SCA really wants you, they could argue for you (assuming that USC overall is reluctant to admit you)… but they likely have to limit the # that they can choose to fight for. So USC’s overall standards are in play as well.
Good luck to all USC SCA applicants this cycle…
Does anybody know if SCA would admit 2 people from the same school into the college? Do they look at how many are coming from a region and try to split it up?
They have before. They are not going to hold that against you if they would otherwise choose to admit you.
Admitted for film production! My heart about exploded when I saw the package.
@jerber is your video submission online? what did you feel the strongest parts of your app were?
