accepted for film production :))))))
That’s great news! Congratulations to everyone who got in!
Does anyone know how many admits there are within SCA for each major? I know for production there are about 50/60 but how many for animation and cinema studies?
rejected… didn’t say anything about not getting into the program though… do you think that means I’m just rejected?
If you’re rejected by the school, you are rejected from the program. Sorry. Start getting excited about the schools that accepted you. This is only one of many great schools.
See post #18 on this thread for all #s by program…
Accepted for MAP! @piksla How is your son liking the program? I’m having a hard time finding a lot of info about classes and such because it’s such a small major.
@kriany Congrats!

didn’t get in and I am crushed. Is anyone else who got rejected planning on appealing?
Hey! I was admitted and found out 3/23 for the spring of 2019. I have a few questions. Also, here are my stats in case anyone is wondering:
Major: Cinema and Media Studies (CMS)
GPA: 4.0 (unweighted)/4.35 (weighted)
Experience: I took online screenwriting course through UCLA in the summer of 2016; a two week intensive in summer of 2017 where we made two films in groups of 8 (also at UCLA); two short screenplays, one film for applications that I wrote, directed, was DP on, and edited; and an elective class called “Art of Film” my sophomore year…I was actually rejected from UCLA.
Strong (I’m assuming since I got in) recommendations from summer course teacher, Art of Film/English teacher, and French teacher. I had the Film/English teacher two years in a row (one for each subject) and I have had my French teacher since sophomore year (this year is the third year), and she taught me ballet when I first started. Needless to say, she knows me pretty well.
Other ECs: President/founder of Film Club at my school, member and Historian of Aerospace Club for two years, member of Literary Club for 2 or 3 years (I forgot which), and Secretary of Debate Club for 2 years. I also have been a ballet dancer for 12 years, and currently train at about 18 hours/week at ABT Gillespie School. I also used to sing, act, etc. I have also written some poetry and short stories. Plus the aforementioned film courses.
Production was my first choice, and Critical Studies/CMS was my second.
Other film schools: LMU (accepted in production), Chapman (Waitlist for production), UCLA (reject for production), Columbia U- (Studies: Still waiting)
USC is my top choice for college, so I am about 95% sure I want to go!
I’m kind of scared/super excited, since I really didn’t think I’d get in.
I did a little research last night one the first year of courses, and one of USC’s videos said that a few people usually transfer from CMS to Production. Is there anyone who knows anything about this process? I’m just worried that I won’t get to be in many productions in CMS, and I want to apply to a Master’s program for Production after my Bachelor’s.
Sorry if these questions have already been answered elsewhere. I’m new here. Sorry if you have seen my comments on other threads, since they are similar with different questions.
I can’t wait to meet all of you! Go Trojans! Fight on!
While you can attempt to transfer from CMS to Production, you cannot do so immediately. The earliest that you could apply would be by Sept 1st of the beginning of your 2nd year at USC, for a start date in the new program, if accepted, of Spring 2020… i.e. your 4th semester there. This is because you must first obtain 48 transferable semester units (excluding AP & IB, but may include units in progress during the fall or spring semester).
So… if Spring admit, you would have to wait one semester longer to apply and start, if accepted.
Also… internal transfers can only get a B.A. in Film and Television Production… and not the BFA. While it happens and consistently… and while the odds are slightly better of getting in than when you just initially applied, there is of course no guarantee.
But as a CMS student, you will certainly have a lot of flexibility to take production, cinematography, editing, etc. classes. My daughter is CMS and is planning to such. My older daughter has even taken many as a Cinematic Arts Minor.

@kriany First off, congrats! MAP is both small and new. Overall, my son likes it— and he has a balanced view. Depends on what you like. MAP pushes the edge of technology plus media which he likes. Also small cohort and good advisor tis great. There are lots of required courses, some of which he likes better than others. He isn’t interested in making Hollywood style films and MAP is the place at SCA least focused on that. They get to do IMAX and other cool Stuff
Feel free to pm me if you want more info and/or to speak with him
@WWWard thanks for the links! @piksla this is kind of exactly what I wanted to hear aha. I was worried that it would be too focused on film type media because it’s in SCA so hearing that it’s tech/media focused is awesome. Thank you both for responding
@kriany you’re welcome
@kriany Good luck and don’t hesitate to PM me if you need to know more
Does anyone know if they send out decisions about the SCA scholarships at the same time as the regular financial aid package?
Admitted to Writing for Screen and Television! Does anyone know how this program is, I feel like it will be very intense.
@screencom Congrats!
By definition, as a BFA program (vs just BA), it is bound to be fairly intense… but that is likely the point - as it is all about properly training you for professional roles in that creative arena. And since they only have 20 or so within the program each cycle, that also tends to indicate more hands-on training and special attention to your needs & education moving forward.
Thank you so much for the info, @WWWard!!
That sounds great, it’s very exciting. Thank you! @WWWard
