***USC School of Cinematic Arts (Class of 2022 Discussion/Results)***

Does anyone know how easy it is to transfer between majors within SCA? I’ve been accepted as a Cinema and Media Studies student, but I want to keep the option of transferring to Productions open.

@OnMelancholyhill Not simple. You would need to apply and gain admission.

You would first have to wait until at least next year to potentially reapply as an internal transfer for Spring 2020. Deadline would be by Sept 1, 2019. You would have to have enough credits already or underway *bascally three terms worth), which is why that would be the soonest you could apply. Also… it would then be for a BA in film/tv production, and not the BFA.

Here is a link to explain it all…

Thank you for the prompt response! Will keep this in mind :slight_smile:

@OnMelancholyhill You’re welcome.

Hi guys! I’m currently attempting to transfer into USC for my sophomore year as a Cinema & Media Studies major and would really appreciate what your guys’ thoughts are on my chances. Here are my stats:

College Transferring From - California 4-year Private University
Entering as: Sophomore
GPA: 3.68
Major GPA: 3.7
Honors: Enrolled in my school’s Honors Program

Subjective:

EC’s listed on app: Social Chair for my school’s sorority, 4yrs in ASB, 2 yrs in Adv. Film as Class Director
Job/Work Experience: Currently working two part time jobs at my university as a student events photographer & classroom videographer. I also have a seasonal position back home as a Fine Arts Camp Teacher. During high school i worked for my city.
Essays: I honestly don’t know, I am always hardest on myself when it comes essays. I was very vulnerable in them to say the least, explained that i was too afraid to apply to USC SCA my senior year but i’ve come to realize the only thing that was stopping me was my self & my own doubt.
Letters of Recommendation: One from my high school’s principal (we were really close/i did a lot of stuff with film for him&the school), one from my honors program professor, one from a family friend who was an SCA alumni.
Etc: My parents were both alumni (idk if that affects it?)

Please let me know what your opinions are, I am getting way too anxious about this.

@WWWard @CADREAMIN Do you know if USC accepts CC credits for GE (Thematic or regular)? If so is there limitation? Another thing is if transferring majors within SCA quite doable? This is for freedman admits and California CC.

@just4years As for CC credits, I would presume so, but I do not know for sure. I have not dealt with external transfer before and have never really researched it.

As for internally transferring into an SCA major or between SCA majors, it is not simple (as you must apply and be admitted) - but it is clearly doable. My daughter internally transferred into SCA last term. In general, see post #121 above for an example.

i’m wondering too

does anybody know when scholarships for SCA come out?

Might try posting here, there is a large transfer community actively posting

Hi, can you share a little bit more about your son’s Stats? How to make him outstanding? I am very nervous now because my D wants to apply for USC Roski or SCA.

if anyone wants some advice or questions answered, feel free to PM me. I got into film+tv production fall 2018!!!

@prepro986 Hey first of all congratulations. I’m currently studying in Marshall at USC. I want to transfer into SCA as a film/tv production major. I’ve read the application requirements. How much time did you put into your short video? Also, Was your portfolio pretty stacked or did you not have much film experience before applying? Once again, congrats bro!

.

@kanjiclub u can send me a message for more info, but I did have a few internships and my short film was pretty niche and focused on what I wanted to do!! I put in about two months into it.

Would transferring into the Writing for Screen and Television program from another SCA major be a similar process to transferring to production (where you have to reapply and gain admission)?

@batgirls23 Yes

Hello, congrats to you. My daughter is planning to apply SCA animation in Fall 2019. Do you have a portfolio you can share? Thanks

@prepro986 are there any SCA associated costs for incoming freshman? My son applied for the SCA Film & Television Production for Fall 2019. Anything you can contribute would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
