USC trustee vs Caltech

My D wants to do Bioengineering/premed and she got into USC with Trustee scholarship which is full ride and also she got into Caltech with no aid. As Caltech will be hard to get high GPA and also more expensive( $200 k) D is thinking to go to USC. Any advise or suggestion on that ? Just wanted to make sure not doing any mistake leaving Caltech as it is very selective and hard to get into. Thanks!

USC would be the wise choice.
DS was accepted at many more prestigious U’s but decided to go to USC because of the Trustee Scholarship.
He is now at Caltech getting his PhD.
Your DD will have opportunities galore at USC and will be well positioned to apply to top Med schools when she graduates.
Not having to spend $200k on her UG education will be a blessing and relief for both her and you!
USC profs LOVE to work with top notch students and the research opportunities there for UG’s are almost boundless.
BTH- Trustee is not “full ride”- it covers tuition only.

Thanks for your valuable comment. You are right it is tuition only.

Take the full ride - $200K saved is $200K earned, and as the other poster commented, USC isn’t exactly a “slouch” of a school! Your D will get a better GPA, may even meet some fun people compared to the robots at Caltech, and will have her choice of next steps if she capitalizes on the opportunities available to her. Congrats, that’s a big accomplishment!

Wow, no need to go insulting the students of Caltech @Cameron121‌ . Do you know most of them personally? Do you know what sort of extracurriculars they engage in (such as music and dance) outside of STEM? Does being a STEM geek automatically make you a robot? A full ride is certainly a smart idea at a good school, but you don’t need to insult students of another school to make that point. If you really feel you do to make a point about FINANCES, then you’re immature and petty.

Any way for you to ask CalTech for some aid? Because if it wasn’t for the money, definitely CalTech over USC.

I would take free ride at USC over Caltech. You D already got her bragging rights for getting into Caltech. Specifically since she needs high GPA for medical school.

If the kids at Caltech are truly like the annoying, disrespectful and obnoxious cast of the Big Bang Theory, then save yourself, your social life, your honor, your ethics, your sense of self worth, your sense of civility and humanity toward others, and your pride, and go to USC.

Did your daughter go to USC? Could you possibly share her qualifications for the trustee scholarship?
