<p>-GPA 9-12 Academic = 3.66 unweighted; 4.23 non-UC weighted
-junior + senior year only A's, biiig upward trend

-CSF scholarship qualified

<p>I had a rough sophomore year because my family (single mom, father committed suicide many years ago) went through a financial crisis and we were basically undeclared homeless for a while. Sometimes I did my homework in our car full of newspapers, where I would then sleep. Other times we would all have to sleep in a friend's house for months. this brings my GPA way down, otherwise I have always been a straight A student...</p>

<p>EXTRACURRICULAR</p>

<p>-Cross Country 3 years, "MVP".
-Track 4 years. 1600m, 800m, long jump.
-Fluent in French. I have Corsican + Persian + American ethnicity
-French club 2 years. (president)
-FBLA club 1 year. (went to nationals)
-Debate Team 1 year. (went to state)</p>

<p>-I educated a 9 year old autistic child during my 10th grade on my own time twice a week. I taught him how to speak correctly, write, think and express himself. Over the year, his family saw improvement, and I am very proud of this. In my essay I want to compare his obsessions with an elaborate train-set he built, to my obsessions of constantly thinking of how I could better teach him during my daily life, and help him "build" himself, and then connect this to my new-found desire to major in cognitive science.</p>

<p>-This summer I plan on going to Ghana and helping for a few weeks over there. I will take pictures with my dSLR and create a portfolio/story and maybe get a photography scholarship.</p>

<p>Chances? (match/reach etc)</p>

<p>Also, as a junior, what could I do to increase my chances? (GPA already projected for 9-12)</p>

<p>You don't have a lot of unique extracurriculars but I'm sure your education of autistic chidl would help. If it was a really amazing and well-written essay, that should get you into UCLA.</p>

<p>My friend who had like a 3.3 weighted GPA but amazing essays/personal statement and a 2200 SAT got into UCLA. She was low-income and single-parent though. That might have affected it.</p>

<p>You'd probably get into USC too.</p>

<p>I don't think Northeastern, Brown, Cornell, or John Hopkins IMHO.</p>

<p>Are you just looking for an ego boost or are you looking for people sympathetic to the economic position you were in a while ago?</p>
