Hey! So I have received a Dean’s scholarship from USC. It is around 13k for the first year, but is extendable based on my “academic performances”. I have been admitted into the Viterbi School of Engineering for their first year program, and plan to study Mechanical Engineering as of now.
I have also been admitted into UCSD Warren college as an undecided major, as Mechanical Engineering was an impacted major. I have no scholarship at UCSD, and am really confused whether I should go here over USC.
The cost of attendance is almost the same for both (counting my scholarship at USC), but I was confused as to which college would give me a better engineering experience and potential job opportunities at a renowned engineering firm.
Thanks!
If the budget works and you want to major in engineering absolutely go with Viterbi. Excellent networking opportunities, career fairs, clubs and organizations. Keep your grades up and getting a good internship and job offers will definitely come. Major companies are very much a presence on campus.
I feel like the same description applies to UCSD, though^
groverrohan, but OP is not admitted to UCSD’s engineering major, and it is impacted. Therefore, s(he)'s taking the risk of not being admitted to engineering or taking more than 5 years to graduate. In addition, there are pros and cons to attending a giant public, so that’s part of the decision. Impacted majors are a concern. Plus many would find attending a private university for the same price as a public one a real advantage.
