Usc vs UCLA

Im sure this conversation has been started time after time on this board discussing USC and UCLA

As of right now, I like USC more than UCLA in almost every aspect besides the cost and the location of the campus, which are two pretty big factors.

Is there any one who thinks that paying the extra money to go to USC is worth it?? I know this is the UC transfer board so most everyone is trying to go to a UC but ive seen many of you who also applied to USC

So which school do you like better, and why?

OK I will start =]

PROS:
USC: 1. Better greek life than UCLA
2. Smaller classes and a bit easier than UCLA
3. More school spirit than UCLA
4. great for career networking.

UCLA: 1. More prestige
2. Beautiful campus near Beverly Hills and where all the celebrities live
3. Better known for smart people
4. Cheaper

*** i know this may be wrong but this is my opinion and I will be happy if I get accepted to any of these two schools

I’ve already decided I would go to USC over UCLA anyday. I’m applying to the School of Policy, Planning and Development which is much more suited to what I want to do than just straight political science major. If only I could actually afford it though.

Some reasons why i like usc better:

1) smaller undergrad 16k compared to ucla 26k (approx)
2) USC football seems like a fun experience to have a stadium within walking distance
3) I feel like at UCLA there are more people commuting and at USC more people are on campus because the neighborhood is bad around it

I like ucla because:

1) CCC is geared more to UC’s so i might need less classes at UCLA than USC
2) Westwood, and westwood village is beautiful and amazing
3) It is significantly cheaper with just as much ( if not more) prestige.

Correct me if im wrong on anything, or add to the list

Does anyone else think the USC transfer “core requirements” suck? (Western/Global Cultures and Traditions, etc). The specific classes they make you take are keeping me from making USC a possible university to transfer to. UCLA on the other hand uses IGETC which is very nice because it includes a comprehensive selection.

are you attending de anza? the core requirements consist of a number of courses, so you can pick and choose (many of which are rly easy, e.g., american indian religions and philosophical thought, cultural anthrop, etc) so fulfilling them should be a breeze

i’m pretty positive that UCLA does have more prestige than USC. but as both have plenty, that should be a huge factor.

If you like blonds, go to USC. Seriously, every other girl there is amazing. If I could afford it, I would go to USC-not for those reasons alone :). If you cannot afford USC-be honest- go to UCLA, you’ll have a better experience.

its really a tough one… it seems like usc would have a better experience but only if u can afford it…

so heres the next question…how much financial aid would u need from USC to choose it over ucla…if usc was 5k more a year i would definitely choose it over ucla

I was originally planning to apply to both schools, since both of them have a great Japanese language program. However, earlier this year, I found out that USC will not accept my Japanese language classes because I took them at my community college BEFORE high school graduation. My first reaction was… So? The classes were taken at a college (the same college I attend now, in fact) and are completely transferable courses. Not sure why they have such a very odd rule… if the class was taken at a college, then it shouldn’t matter. I don’t think any of the UCs enforce such a thing.

After I spoke with them, they told me that I could place into a higher level Japanese class if I’m admitted to USC by taking a Placement Test (which I’m not worried about) but that the 20 units of Japanese I took will not count. So, I would probably be admitted as a college sophomore, while UCLA would accept me as a junior.

Anyways, I’ve decided to only apply to UCLA. Unlike USC, UCLA doesn’t have an odd rule about accepting classes like I mentioned above, and like others have said, it’s always cheaper. I did want to go to USC, but there’s always graduate school. But they’re both great schools, without a doubt.

It really depends on a specific program. Film school is better at USC, biology is better at UCLA, etc.

this one is easy

USC:

 1. Hotter girls
 2. Better football
 3. Business program (undergrad)

UCLA:

 1. Better bball
 2. safer area

usc bball is better this year lol but ucla will bounce back.

i think usc is more diverse, also. I love both schools, i really dont know how I would decide if i got into both

Usc >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> ucla

No one can justify spending an extra 70k for a slightly better college experience. That’s wishful thinking and very foolish.

This thread exists in some type of bizzaro world. The rankings by department seem to favor UCLA in every category.

^ It’s the UC Transfer section of college confidential. Don’t be surprised by false rankings.

how many of you have taken for language in HS for UC’s? I never want to take a spanish class again, and im under the impression that I would need to take a foreign language if I went to USC but not UCLA
