USC vs. UCSB

I have been accepted into both USC and UCSB, however I don’t know which way to go.

UCSB I am a bus-econ/ accounting major in the honors program with on campus housing.

USC Business Admin. major but with no housing and cost about 18K more.

I am most worried about the housing situation at USC and that it will make it harder for me to meet people and feel connected to the school.Do I bite the bullet and go to USC because of its academic and networking strength. Or should I go to UCSB?

I want to go to graduate school but don’t want to give that much weight.
THANKS! :)

go for ucsb. I know many people that dont like USC and I also know many that went to ucsb over USC. The environment is similar at ucsb (they are both party schools); the ocean view is gorgeous and the academics are not that bad. Also, if you are going to graduate school, then undergrad doesnt matter. I would go where i would feel most comfortable in and i know i would succeed. Also, its easier at ucsb so your grades wont be jacked up by USC's nasty curve.

They are both pretty good schools. For business USC's undergrad business program (marshall) is better, ranking wise, I don't know if that matters to you.

You gotta ask yourself, is the 18k worth it to you, for more prestige?

Also, like mojojojo said, if you're certain on going to grad school your decision doesn't really matter too much.

Good luck.

hey what do your friends who don't like USC dislike about it?

don't mind mojo...he's going to ucla lol

Don't let the USC curve scare you... it really isn't that big of a deal if you put in the required effort. Good grades aren't just handed to you, you need to study your butt off to dominate.

If you want to go to grad school (MBA I assume), there will be other large variables that affect your admission to a top MBA program (GMAT, Work Exp, etc)... you will want to go to a school that will land you the best possible job to put on your resume.

Here are the top 10 recruiting firms that hired the most graduates in the past academic year at USC (Businessweek)

PricewaterhouseCoopers
Deloitte Touche Tomatsu
Ernst & Young
KPMG LLP
Bank of America Corp.
Lending Tree
Protiviti Inc.
JPMorgan Chase & Co.
Wells Fargo
Goldman Sachs Group

Not to mention USC has a better Job Placement score than UC Berkeley (Haas) :)

You should consider these factors when making your decision.

I'm having a similar choice between USC(Econ) and UCSD(Econ). Still haven't decided where to go. Some says it is not worth to go to USC unless the business major but I think it would be good opportunity living the city for job opportunity. (I will apply for MBA afterward) On the other hand, UCSD has good reputation for engineering and bio-science major but Econ. I need to make a decision til next monday. sighhhhh.
