USC vs. UCSD

So yesterday, I was so indecisive that I accepted my admission to both USC and UCSD... so now, I am trying to figure out which to pick.

Overall, I think that I'll be content with either choice I pick, and the prices seem to be even for what each school is worth. I didn't apply early enough to USC to recieve a presidental scholorship, so I my only hope for that is loans and other scholorships. I'll also have to work hard at getting a job when I go down there, and then get an internship during the summer for sure. Otherwise, my parents are going to have to cut down a whole lot.. since they have to save for my 3 other sisters' education.

The pluses of USC are that it's slightly better in my major (aerospace engineering) than UCSD, and that I'll have more fun overall because of the school spirit, the football games, and things like that.

UCSD, however, seems to be an alright choice too, since it is very good overall in engineering, and the school seems pretty chill. I've heard that it's harder to get the classes you want there, though, and that's surely a negative. Also, it's not as social, and doesn't have much school spirit, which are definite negatives, but it wouldn't be the end of the world.

Based off of these and other possible factors, which do you think I should lean more towards? Thanks in advance.

I am wondering why you thought you would get a Presidential Scholarship? The vast majority of those who applied early were not awarded scholarships. The only reason I ask is I am wondering if you are NMF and thought you had to apply by Dec 1st to get the NMF Presidential - you do not. Just send in the card naming USC as you first choice as soon as possible.

If you are not NMF - just disregard this entire post. Good luck!

USC over UCSD anytime - USCs reputation is better, academics are better, UCs are bankrupt lol

Well two of my friends, whom I believe I am on the same caliber as, got the scholorships, so I might have had a chance at one.

But anyways, yeah HappyBuddha, that’s all true, but UCs are A LOT cheaper haha.
And UCSD is better in engineering overall, all thought USC is better in my specific major, aerospace engineering.

sounds like you might like USC more, but cost should definitely be a big part of your decision since your parents still have to pay for three other kids’ college education in addition to yours (but i don’t know what your financial situation is like, so i can’t say anything for sure)

Yeah, that sums it up pretty much. I do like USC more, but it’s the money issue that’s worrying me. I’m pretty sure I could work it out if I got some student loans, but if my parents payed for the whole thing, then they’d have to start taking some stuff out from their retirement savings, which I don’t wanna make them do.

If you can work it out so you can graduate with feasible loans from USC, go for it. If it looks like money will be an issue, go with UCSD. They’re both solid choices.
