USC vs University of Miami (FL)

I am trying to decide which is the better choice between these two. Any opinions/comments in terms of which is the 'better' school, 'better' reputation, or best experience?

USC is better than U Miami in most respects. But, if you intend to settle in Florida or the South, a degree from Miami will likely help you more than a degree from USC.

USC reputation, prestigious, and quality of education is normally considered above the University of Miami’s as UCB pointed out.

In terms of an experience, I do not know much about Miami, but USC has a great night life, party scene, and even other activities for those that do not enjoy partying as much.

I would research the environment at both schools, go to the theU.com to learn more.

will check that site out, thanks

I’d pick USC.

It’s notch above in terms of reputation, the social scene is great, and California doesn’t have humidity or hurricanes.

what about strength of degree/academics?

any last input on these two?

USC has more prestige academically than U Miami.

But, it’s silly to say one is better. If you like South Florida, go to U Miami. If you like Socal, go to USC.

Honestly, they are about equal except for film studies, which USC certainly has the edge.

If you are not majoring in cinematic arts, it would depend on where you want to live. If you hope to live long term on the west coast, USC has the edge in reputation. If you want to live on the east coast especially in the south or Florida, Miami clearly has the edge.

Overall , they are both good schools, and you won’t go wrong with either one. Check out the location of USC. I do know that Miami is in a safe area (crime wise). I don’t know if this is true for USC>

any opinions on quality of life at the schools? dorms? food? fun? etc?

if USC wont let me defer…do i take Miami now, or chance USC next yr?

^ Take U Miami now…bird in the hand (with a full scholarship esp.) is worth two in the bush.

good point

anyone else?

does anyone know if USC makes exceptions in terms of deferment?

anyone know??

I am a USC alum. USC does not permit deferments. You can check out this information in more detail on the university’s website under “Admissions”.

Sounds like you should go with the sure bet-Miami.
