USC Wins Men's Tennis D-1 National Championship---100th National Championship

Athens, GA was the site of the NCAA men's tennis national championships. USC beat an inspired Oklahoma team by a score of 4-2.

Part of the band was there to cheer and play for the team.

Senior Captain, Ray Sarmiento, was named “Most Outstanding Player of the NCAA Men’s Tennis Tournament” for 2014. Ray was a key player on the 2011, 2012 and 2014 NCAA men’s tennis national championship teams. at the D-1 level.

"The Trojans secured their 21st tennis title by beating Oklahoma 4-2. They came back from a 2-0 deficit after dropping the doubles point and the initial singles point. Ray Sarmiento, Max de Vroome, Eric Johnson, and Michael Grant all won singles pairings for the Trojans, and that secured the landmark championship victory.

The USC men’s tennis program has claimed a record 21 national championships in helping the university to this 100th all-time NCAA Championship. In all, USC has 122 national championships (22 titles have come in non-NCAA competitions). At the close of this year’s tournament, the Trojans almost swept the All-Tournament Team honors. Yannick Hanfmann was selected at No. 1 singles, along with Ray Sarmiento (No. 2 singles), Max de Vroome (No. 4 singles), Eric Johnson (No. 5 singles) and Michael Grant (No. 6 singles). Head coach Peter Smith is now the men’s tennis program’s second winningest coach, holding five NCAA Championships to follow 10 won by George Toley."

The Trojans have won the NCAA Championships 5 of the last 6 years. FIGHT ON!

Congratulations to our Men’s Tennis team!!! Spectacular!!!

The men’s water polo team won the national championship also. The women’s golf team is in the final round of the NCAA championship tournament. That team has the opportunity of winning the 101st national team NCAA championship for SC.

You don’t have to be a tennis fan to feel the pride in this video. How great of USC to send the band out - but with it being a final and the 100th NCAA Championship - of course they would!

Dreamin,
Part of the band was there to support the team. Classes are over and only so many members were available. Band members came in 2011 and 2012 as well to play for the team. The USC Alumni Club of Atlanta had members who drove long distances to attend the matches. They wore the “Fight on, Y’all” T shirts.

100 titles is impressive!

I watched this live on the online stream, we really have some tennis and water polo dynasty going.

GG - I have been to some of the NCAA tennis Championships last few years and I can tell you that the band just validates the significance of the event in a sport that doesn’t get the attention of the big ones. Watching the salute of the band to players and players to band at the end can bring tears to your eyes. How did you like the USC/UVA tennis match @War Chant - doesn’t get any more exciting than that! Thank you Alumni Club of Atlanta who supported the guys - they may not read this I know, but if you know some of them @Georgia Girl, tell them they are awesome! My hubby was there and he sat next to a very nice gal from the alumni club! In the semis, UVA had such a group there being closer to the site, but from the stream I was watching, I think the USC crowd was able to match them with support. What a network USC has.
